6.0-REL problems with ISA ed0, FFS corruption and ancient hardware
[ Asked on -questions on Friday; re-asking now on -stable without cross-post] I recently upgraded a 4.11-REL machine to 6.0-REL and have run into some snags. While the installation from CD went fine, after configuring and enabling my ed0 NIC, bad things start to happen. FWIW, this machine is an ancient (hardware circa 1991, BIOS circa 1994) dual-Pentium 133 MHz machine, with EISA/PCI and onboard SCSI. So far I can reliably reproduce two panics, one appears to be a ed driver bug (based on reports of similar panics with different N...

Using Samba with 2 ethernet interfaces
...(version 1.9 something I think, definitely not version 2). It has 2 ethernet interfaces which are configured correctly for tcp/ip - I can telnet the server from windoze workstations connected to either card & ping back & forth. There is no routing between the 2 nets. Samba works ok from the ed0 interface, but if we move a workstation from ed0 to ed1 & adjust it's ip address etc. for that sub net, it can't see the server (I can telnet to the server, but there is no domain server found when I try to logon to the network). I have put the following entry in smb.conf: interfaces =...

mounting filesystems with blocks larger then 4k over a loop device
So I'm playing around with S3 and elasticdrive, and I create a filesystem on it with a block size larger then 4k. mkfs.xfs -b size=8k /mnt/ed5/ed0 -f This completes fine and sets up the proper filesystem. When I try to mount it, however, I get: mount /mnt/ed5/ed0 /mnt/eds35/ -o loop mount: Function not implemented looking at dmesg I get: XFS: Attempted to mount file system with blocksize 8192 bytes XFS: Only page-sized (4096) or less...

IPFW disconnections and resets
Hi, I am using IPFW on FreeBSD 4.11 I am facing two problems: - SSH sessions timeout after a while - When I run "/sbin/ipfw -q -f flush" in the rules script all connection get reset (and I am thrown out of the box). Is this standard functioning of ipfw or do I need to change any configuration? Thanks, Siddhartha

Doug, I remove ed config from rc.conf and system boots up without any error messages. When I try to config interface manually (ifconfig ed0 ***) then I saw it again. Is it ifconfig problem? subnet browsing problems
hi! I'm experiencing troubles with $(subj). What I actually had before is an NT box. Now it's been replaced by FreeBSD box with 2 network interfaces: ed0 has real ip address & ed1 has local ip 10.0.0.1. NT box is now assigned ip 10.0.0.2 & is connected to FreeBSD's ed1. After this change NT box doesn't see its workgroup. Workgroup has WINS server (functioning on another NT box) I've installed samba 2.0.6 & configured it, h...

Frequent reboots...
Hello, I am having a problem with a new server running FreeBSD 4.9-PRERELEASE. Once every two days or so, it reboots itself.. there is no exact time of the day it reboots.. It rebooted itself at 4:25 PM EDT on 9/25, and 3:05 AM EDT on 9/29 (today). I thought it's the bad memory or some sort, so I've been running memtest today and memtest reports no sign of trouble with the memory...
