Ecological Niche Modelling on R
Dear all,
I have strong interest on Ecological Niche Model, which in general use a set
of environmental variables (continuous, categorical etc) and Presence (or
Presense/Absence) records for species. I think that "grasp" and "adehabitat"
packages could help me on these tasks.
My input layers are on ASC format, and the re...

course in ecological data analysis
Dear all,
For my PhD study I'm looking for relevant courses/workshops (short term)
in ecological data anlysis with R in Europe. After 2 days searching I'm
convinced that google is probably not the right medium to find this
information. If anyone can help me I will be most grateful.
Best regards - J. Capelle

In addition to mu previous posting I have another question:
Why is lmp() not giving an estimated intercept for a linear regression
model (like in lm())?
kind regards,

Task View for ecology/environmental science
Having just discovered "Task Views" I see there isn't one for
ecology/environmental science.
I don't have the expertise to help with this, but I think it would be
a very useful addition if there was any person (s) on the list willing
to help create such a Task View.
I am sure the maintainers of the Task Views will pick up on any
responses to this post from vol...

Help with permutation function from Turner et al. 2010 (Ecology)
Hello,
I'm using R code that includes a residual permutation that was written as a supplement to the paper:
Turner et al. 2010. A general hypothesis-testing framework for stable isotopes ratios in ecological studies. Ecology 91:2227-2233.
The supplemental code is available at: http://www.esapubs.org/archive/ecol/E091/157/suppl-1.htm
When I execute the function, no warnings are given (seems fine). But the resulting output matrix is simply a matrix of repeating rows (i.e., it appears as if the func...

Hi,
I have two tables and I need to merge both. I use the merge command, but
in this way the name must be exactly. How I can make to compare

Look:

Entomology","Neotropical Biology And Conservation"))
data2<-data.frame(journal=c("Ecology","Environmental
Entomology","Neotropical Biology and
Conservation","Sociobiology"),qualis=c("A1","A2"...

[SoC09-Idea] Movement Ecology add-ons for adehabitat package
...analysis.
A MSc student is available to anwser the call, of course. The idea has already
been briefly discussed with the mantainer of the adehabitat package and the
AniMov project community.
Short description
Develop some add-on functions to use the adehabitat package to perform basic
movement ecology analysis, in particular analysis of fractal dimension D.
Developed functions could possibly be included in a future release of the
adehabitat package itself.
Detailed description
Fractal dimension analysis is an useful tool to better understand not just
the 'path tortuosity', in an ani...

Ecological Detective worked solutions [R-wiki]
Hi,
I've added several pages of worked solutions for the book Ecological
Detective by Hilborn and Mangel to the R-wiki. My hope is that this
will be of use to others working through this book without access to a
local expert. I am certainly not an expert, local or otherwise.
I have posted solutions for chapters 3-6, which includes some really
horrible direct trans...

ecological meaning of randomForest vegetation classification?
...dle leaved evergreen forest, dense broad-leaved forest,
barren, etc.).
A statistician advised me to use the randomForest package in R and using a
sub-set to generate the random Forest, I get a very good prediction for the
rest.
However, I need to evaluate how meaningful this classification is in an
ecological sense (boreal trees should not play a role in the definition of
tropical land-cover types, for example), otherwise I cannot judge the
quality of the vegetation model's output.
Unfortunately, randomForest gives me about 15.000 splits of which about
5000 are end branches (rough guess), so it...

I am using the vegan, ade4, gclus and cluster packages.
