getaddrinfo() problem with AIX 4.3.3 and rsync 2.5.2?
I had to apply the following patch to the clientname.c check_name() function before I could successfully use "hosts allow" in rsyncd.conf. Without the patch I kept getting "rsync: forward name lookup for ... failed: Host not found" errors. These errors were produced by the rsync daemon, and putting in a debugging statement revealed that the port_buf being used had a large

rsynd-2.5.1 / hlink.c patches
Platform: Compaq OpenVMS Alpha 7.3 Compiler: Compaq C T6.5 The following patch resolves compile problems with the HLINK.C module. The cast on function argument for the qsort() routine was wrong, and not allowing the compile to complete. When the function definiton of the hlink_compare() is corrected to have the const qualifiers, the cast inside the qsort() function call is no longer

Unusual IMAP config.
...k off a test rig that uses IMAP on port 143 using a standard password (file or NIS) auth and to set up another on port, say 144 using PAM. Can this be done within one single dovecot.conf, or should I be running two separate daemons? Converting .grib to excel file
I'm now inclined to go with 'search for "convert GRIB to CSV". https://confluence.ecmwf.int/display/CKB/How+to+convert+GRIB+to+CSV is the first line. I know that's not an R solution, but using software specifically developed for encoding, decoding, extracting, &c GRIB file by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts and actively maintained, with an example page...

Converting .grib to excel file
Richard, Many thanks for your email. I had attached the grib file to the original email to R help team but it seems you did not receive it. Unfortunately, I do not know how to reduce the volume or extract some of the grib file data to send it for you. The file has the volume of 6 Megabyte. I can send it by email. The file has 6 met parameters and Date (day/month/year hour:minute). I want the

A checksum question
I'd like to know a little about the internals of RSYNC. I am a little confused as to why RSYNC is using both the simple 32 bit algorithm and the MD4 checksum function on the same files. From my testing this causes a vast overhead that is clearly not represented by RCP (fairly obvious!). Removing checksumming from a secure whole-file LAN transfer brings RSYNC in line with the general
