character encoding in RoR
Hi, I''m a newcomer to Ruby and to Rails, and am having a problem with
character encoding.
Now, I know ruby doesn''t handle unicode...but, characters like ? (eacute)
and ? (ccedil) are part of the iso-8859-1 charset, so it shouldn''t be a
problem, right?
But, for some reason, the string functions still seem to hang on those
characters.
As an example, in a brand new rails app, with a single model "Post" mapped
to a database with id, title,...

Ajax calls and characters encoding (accents)
Hello, my application controller defines
before_filter :set_charset
def set_charset
@headers["Content-Type"] = "text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"
end
Everything is fine and accents are rendered correctly in the browser.
However, when I call a controller/action from Ajax (Prototype), the
charset is not taken in account and accents are garbage displayed (''?''

the IRIX side, it's impossible toaccess to such files/directory.
What's more, my ARkeia backup client stalls on such a name and fouled up
my backup database...
NB: Oops: for those that can't read the lines over there

I suppose WindowsX users use a symbol set different from the IRIX one.
Is there a way for Samba to force the use of *a* symbol set ???

special characters in db
...some data has special characters
(?, ?, ?, etc...) in database....
The problem is that those caracters display incorrectly in browser, how can
I handle that situation with RoR???
Does it exist a "parser" that convert those characters in their respective
html entities (á, é, ñ) to store it that way in
database???
and if so, how can I tell to the helper methods (collection_select, for
example) to not escape those caracters (I tried to render data stored with
html entities "collection_select" scape the "&" character)
Regards!!!

Dead Keys Solution (although temporary)
...d a modmap file (called modmap) and I activate it running
"xmodmap modmap" after login. If you're lucky you can place it into
~/.Xmodmap and it will activate automatically...
It contains:
keycode 51 = plus asterisk grave dead_breve
keycode 38 = a A aacute Aacute
keycode 26 = e E eacute Eacute
keycode 29 = y Y yacute Yacute
keycode 30 = u U uacute Uacute
keycode 31 = i I iacute Iacute
keycode 32 = o O oacute Oacute
Which is very proper for the Icelandic keyboard but you should get the
drift. Several modmaps are included with my distribution (Mandrake 8.1)
under /usr/share/...

unicode conversion
...s 8 machine.
But these samba shares are NFS mounted file systems that come from a NAS
(Celerra's EMC)
In smb.conf:
- Character set parameter is not set.
- Codepage is 850
In the NAS file server the parameter is set to unicode.
In windows machines filenames look good.
In Solaris for example eacute are replaced with something like \202 or
spaces are replaced with \200.
In NAS, is worst.
All natives unix filenames are good.
So do we have to upgrade samba to samba3.0 ?
What parameters do we have to set in smb.conf (2.2.8 and 3.0) ?
Thanks a lot.

how to fix high freq noise?
Hi Masakazu,
I have reproduced the Speex high frequency noise issue on a Blackfin 537
by sending 'silence' into the Speex fixed point encoder. By recording
the Speex decoder output and plotting the spectrum using Audacity the
following two frequencies.
1596Hz at -31.3dB
3200Hz at -48dB
These two frequencies are present in both Narrow Band and Wide Band
modes. I've tried a number
