Hot swap CPU
From: Rodrigo Barbosa <rodrigob at suespammers.org> > Btw, don't quote me on this one :) > I'm only 90% sure of the hotswapping capabilities, and less than 50% > sure about the price :) There _are_ systems with hot-swap CPUs, memory and/or, PCI[-X] slots. They are _not_ commodity and pricey, and require OS-level support. In fact, I believe Linux 2.6 has some support for

HVM on Dell Optiplex 755
Hi, I want to run a HVM domU. I have a Dell Optiplex 755: model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz I have enabled VT in BIOS settings under performance. However, after I boot into a linux kernel (not under Xen), grep vmx /proc/cpuinfo returns nothing. When I boot under Xen, I get (XEN) Intel VT-d has been enabled (XEN) [VT-D]iommu.c:1700: Queued Invalidation hardware not found (XEN...

CentOS 4 dkms-ndiswrapper
Hi - I'm trying to get wireless running on CentOS 4.7 on a dual core laptop (latitude-e4500) for an employee. I'm having trouble with building dkms-ndiswraper-1.54-1.el4.rf - enclosed are the errors messages. The kernel was rebuilt to disable CONFIG_4KSTACKS. The errors prior to rebuilding the kernel are identical to the errors after rebuilding the kernel and rebooting - minus the...

Help with ./configure options
...I enter any text for any of these? Does Samba really use this info to determine what host it's running on for networking issues, etc.? After it's compiled, I will tar it up and install it on many servers. All the servers are Sun Sparc's running 2.6 of various types. (ie: E250's-E4500's) Any issues?? I have done for versions previous to Samba 2.x without problems. ----------- Secondly, please confirm the following: As an end result, I wish to have Samba installed in /opt/samba All of it's directories and files will be under this base directory. I'm using the...

RE: CentOS Digest, Vol 6, Issue 3
...a dual 400MHz PII with those drives and came up with comparable numbers (using UnixBench 4.1, which benchmarks quite a few areas)). Those U30s are built like tanks; they also take approximately the same amount of power as the dual 400 does; about 100 watts. Now, if you're going to compare the E4500 to Intel hardware, you need to look at high-end Proliants and PowerEdges of that time period, not modern Dell PowerEdges. Hmmm, there weren't any comparable Intel servers in that time period (with the exception of Sequent's Dynix stuff that ran dozens of 66Hz 486's and cost a mint). A...

Samba + BDE and slow speed on reading (long)
...the other stations, and the application runs perfectly again. Conclusion: there's definitely a problem when readind files from samba server. It's not network related, since FTP is really fast, and when serving the database from XP, the speed is OK too. The server is a brand new Core 2 Duo E4500, 2GB RAM, 160 GB HD SATAII. The switch is also new. The distro in question is FC5. As a related topic, I've came across a situation (two times and couting) when writing files to the samba server is painfully slow. On both cases, setting SO_RCVBUF=1 has resolved the problem. I don't know wh...

Recommendations for a “real RAID" 1 card on Centos box
...setting up my Centos Desktop machine for RAID 1. I read a lot of good info at this site:http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html#intel-vitesse about differences in fakeraid and real raid cards. The hardware I plan on installing this RAID card into is an Intel DP35DP motherboard with the Intel E4500 dual core processor, and I have two Mator 500 gig SATA hard drives. Can anyone recommend a good ?real raid? card for my Linux? What I am looking for is to plug in a RAID controller card out of the box, and without having to load any drivers onto my Centos 5.1 box, have the Real hardware RAID card...

From: Peter Arremann <loony at loonybin.org> > Compiles aren't a great benchmark for a box since its 100% cpu and > neglects memory or disk performance but I had the numbers handy > for that :-) BTW, it is 100% ALU and a major strain on the ALU LOAD. In other words, it's not a good benchmark for even CPU. That's why the 3-issue ALU in the Nx586 on-ward blows the

[Bug 226] New: open ssh appears to stop password change prompts from Solaris
...iority: P2 Component: sshd AssignedTo: openssh-unix-dev at mindrot.org ReportedBy: dirk.bockmann at customs.gov.au We are in the process of rolling out version 3.1 of openssh across 30 Solaris servers running 2.5.1. to 2.8 on a variety of hardware from Ultra 10's to E4500's. All is going well thank you except: Our password policy requires that users change em within 30 days and we lock em out if they do not access the server for 90 days. Our problem is that when we get to the password change warning stage they are locked out if using openssh. I presume b...

I tried many solutions on the forums, I found nothing. Below is some information about my setup. Thank you help me find the solution. Would this not a bug of Xen in view of my hardware. contrib/solaris/buildpkg.sh - use within JumpStart as well?
Hello, I don't know how off the wall this question will be, but first let me say that I've found your buildpkg.sh script very useful in creating an OpenSSH package for use on my Solaris systems. Currently I'm trying to set up a fully automated JumpStart system at my workplace, and I'm realizing that the 'postinstall' script (and possibly some of the other install scripts)
