Samba-4 DNS issue
Folks   I've managed (due to me being fat-fingered that morning) to get a DNS zone in a Samba-4 DNS setup screwed up.   Basically I was trying to add a new A record to an internal domain "e2eservices.co.uk" using the MS administration tools (not the samba-tool CLI). However instead of adding the entry "styx" to the domain, I accidently added "styx.e2eservices.co.uk"; this basically generated a child entry called "uk" under the "e2eservices.co.uk&q...

Samba update to 4.2.14 (SERNET) breaks LDAP access
Hello Alan, I had the same issue and I needed to add this line: ldap server require strong auth = no to smb.conf. Then, just restart/reload samba and it should work. Minimal AD DC server for dev/test setup
...DC didn't exist. Now it exists! Woohoo! "What's the simplest Samba DC I could reasonably use? to dev/test against? All I want is to throw a dozen users and three groups in there". For example, I would love a simple enough setup that I can run in a throwaway VM/container for unit+e2e tests in integration. cheers, m -- martin.langhoff at gmail.com - ask interesting questions ~ http://linkedin.com/in/martinlanghoff - don't be distracted ~ http://github.com/martin-langhoff by shiny stuff

Minimal AD DC server for dev/test setup
About the last question, I'll be reading up on samba-tool. Apologies. A better question is: can I run the DC without an attached DNS server? How little can I get away with running? In my imagination, I should be able to run just the LDAP+Kerberos parts, AIUI that's all I need, skipping DNS, fileserving, winbind, etc; blame this on my view of AD as a quirky LDAP. Again, scoped for my use
