thor:~# tune2fs -O ^has_journal /dev/vgraid/data
After that I fsckd just to be sure I wouldnt meet any unexpected problems.
So now it was time to defrag, I used this command:
thor:~# e2defrag -r /dev/vgraid/data
After about 15 seconds (after it ate all my 1.5G of RAM) I got this answer:
e2defrag (/dev/vgraid/data): Unable to allocate buffer for inode priorities
I am using Debian unstable and here is the version information from e2defrag:

Ext2/3 fs and defragmentationn
...ople in everywhere).
The result was the system did not mount de root (/) partition and the
boot process was stopped. I repair it easily: boot from LiveCD (Knoppix
in my case), umount root partition and pass the e2fsck utility.
Because of that I've used several fs tools and my surprise was the
e2defrag utility. Until the present day I think the ext2/3 fs has not
defrag problem. But I've used defrag tools in root partition because it
was really fragmented.
?What do you know about this kind of "trouble"?
I supose the fragmentation is ext2/3 fs is lesser problem than in Win fs

file entries can be stored before needing another expansion?

some files, and finally I start adding files. Will new file
entries use empty or vacated directory slots before expanding

Does this program (or any other any tool) perform any
directory optimization that would affect this problem?
(8) If e2defrag would be helpful, has it/is it being brought
forward to operate correctly with current (RH 8/9) systems?

searching for ext3 defrag/file move program
Hello everybody,
reading about the speed improvements possible with (on boot) preloaded files
(which should be continuous on disk) I searched for a ext3 defrag program.
I found an ext2 defrag program
(http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/system/filesystems/defrag-0.70.tar.gz,
available in debian as defrag) which would have an optimal feature (moving
files by a list) but refuses to work on ext3.

Ext3 problems
Hi!
I was really stupid! I have defragmented my ext3 partition with e2defrag, altought i have done that many times in debian without problems on my new gentoo installation it had bad results. When i wanted to boot this partition i got serious e2fsck errors.
It has reported that (only) inode 8 has illegal blocks, so i have run e2fsck -fy /dev/hda2, which has cleared the ille...
