server renaming problems
Good Morning, I have a Sun E220R I am building as a replacement for an Ultra2. The OS is Solaris 2.7, samba version is 2.2.2. As a test box I named the E220R 'tiamat'. The older U2 is 'terra'. Tiamat had samba running happily on it. Last night I tested the switch over by using /usr/sbin/sys-unconfig on tiamat. Th...

rc14 and rc15 performance issues
...I am stuck at rc13 because rc14 and rc15 have both failed to keep up with imap connections on my (slow old) system. I have the problem where if a lot of people check their email at once (like at the top of the hour) then my load goes way up and things slow to a crawl. My setup: Solaris 10 on an E220R, mbox format, imap and imaps only. I also use "login_process_per_connection = no". Any suggestions? Jeff Earickson Colby College

rc1: Questions about ssl-build-param!!??
...file ssl-parameters.dat: Permission denied Nobody was getting their email via imap. So I removed the directories /opt/dovecot/var and /var/run/dovecot to get dovecot to rebuild the ssl-parameters.dat file. Questions: 1) Why on Earth does ssl-build-param take so long??!! (> 12 minutes on my E220R) What is it doing? How to speed this process up, and/or tune it? 2) Where does ssl-parameters.dat get written to? I found one copy in the /opt/dovecot/var/lib/dovecot directory, and one copy in /var/run/dovecot/login. Which copy gets used? 3) What are the permissions supposed to be for ssl-...

Samba domain users VS "rogue" NT servers.
...ot;Your logon time at NTDOMAIN has ended" and refuses to play nice. client machines happily let the users logon, and they are able access resources shared out with samba. Client machines are running NT4.0 SP6A, NT Servers are running NT Server 4.0 with SP6A Samba 2.2.3a using LDAP on a Sun E220R running solaris 8 as samba domain master. The following lines, among others, are present in our smb.conf file: --- local master = yes os level = 64 domain master = yes preferred master = yes domain logons = yes --- Is anyone successfully running an NT server as a member of a Samba-served NT do...

1.0alpha1: assert and core
Hi, I've been running 1.0alpha1 in production since August 18, and got my first assert and core yesterday. Otherwise it has been running flawlessly. My setup: Sun E220R, Solaris 9, compiled dovecot with gcc 4.0.1, configured dovecot like so: #!/usr/bin/sh VERSION=1.0-alpha1 CC=gcc CFLAGS="-g -O" CPPFLAGS=-I/opt/openssl/include LDFLAGS=-L/opt/openssl/lib \ ./configure --prefix=/opt/dovecot.$VERSION --with-ssl=openssl \ --with-ssldir=/opt/openssl/ssl &gt...

Solaris/SSLonly/Lots of Users
Anyone running Dovecot on Solaris, requiring only SSL connections, and servicing thousands of simultaneous users? Our past attempts to do so have failed due to dovecot-auth using up all 256 of its file descriptors. I say 256 since we are limited to that by the 32-bit libraries. We are looking at either compiling Dovecot in 64-bit and letting dovecot-auth file descriptors accumulate (not ideal),

Sun Servers with UltraSparc Processors
Hi, I'm just considering buying two Telecoms grade Sun Netra's to run a lab-based VoIP solution. Not my immediate thoughts as a VoIP platform, but from what I've heard, they can run Linux, and run it well. Only thing is: The Wiki and the Whitepaper just state that Asterisk is for the x86 architecture, but has been compiled to run on PPC architectures. No mention of UltraSparc.
