Page eject and clearing the console
(1) I know that \n when used in cat, e.g. cat("\n") produces a line feed (i.e. skips to the next line). Is there any escape sequence that will go to the top of the next page?
(2) I know that control L will clear the console. Is there an equivalent function or other means that can be used in R code to clear the console?
Thanks,

calculate the elasticities by linear.hypothesi commander
Dear all
If I run the model and get the estimated parameter a11. Then I want to
use the estimated parameter to calculate the elasticities by using the
formula e11=a11/mw1-1. What I have done is using the command of linear.
Hypothesis.

Lattice xyplot log scale labels help!
I have a problem with lattice log scales that I could use some help with.
I'm trying to print log y-axis scales without exponents in the labels.
A similar thread with Deepayan' recommendation is here:
http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e11/help/10/09/9865.html. For
example, this code using xyplot produces a logged y-axis but the
labels (e.g. "10^1.2") are not very user-friendly:
xyplot(24:300~24:300, scales=list(y=list(log=T)))
So, trying another y.scale.component function, we get something more
agreeable for y-axis sca...

Add rank column to data frame as in SQL...
...an easy problem...
I'm trying to add a partitioned rank column to a data frame where the
rank is calculated separately across a partition by categories, the
way you could easily do in SQL. I found this solution in the archives
that looked like it might work:
http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e11/help/10/09/8675.html
The example has a data frame with several car companies, and employee
salaries within them. A column is then added to the data.frame which
should give the descending rank for each employee, partitioned by
company.
But when I implemented it, the results weren't the expec...

Thanks for the comment.
I got the same error (PXE E11 ARP timeout) with two different
motherboards, a Biostar M7VKQ with a realtek 8100 lan, and an
Intel 845 BG with an intel 100Pro lan. Possibly there is something
wrong with the hardware in both systems. The realtek 8100 seemed to
work OK originally but in some cases I am now getting some flaky

Memdisk in Release 3.82 conflicts with a IntelBIOSupdate Image
Thank you Shao
I have no Linux env to compile the newest snapshot to C32 format. Instead, I
downloaded the 3.83pre11 from
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/syslinux-3.83-pr
e11.zip and replaced the files on my PXE server.
Unluckily, it didn't work.
I suspect it is not due to memdisk. I tried to use a combination of
pxelinux.0(in 3.73) and memdisk(in 3.82), it did work! I think the...

XML for tc hierarchy representation
Hi list, I would like to know about any proposed XML representation for
tc objects hierarchy. I found something at "LTCM, a Linux QoS API
Library" (http://artemis.av.it.pt/~ltcmmm/) that looks like a start, but
any others are welcome.
I''m starting a project to automatically syncronize traffic shape rules
between servers and thought XML is the best way to represent tc

Linear Integration
Hello
I would like to calculate a weighted line integral.
The integral is calculated by the cells that this lines trasverses (the small
cells belong to matrix (m*n) that represent the value that a specific area has.
I need to calculate the weights by finding out how much the line touches or
impinges inside a cell.
The weight is less if a line just touches one of the four edges of a square
