patched kernel addressing timekeeping issues under vmware
...They were hoping to get them into the RHEL 5.3 kernel but unfortunately this is not going to happen. It looks like the patches will be in the RHEL 5.4 kernel. Using the patches provided in the bugzilla, I have rebuilt the latest test kernel (-125) that is available from http://people.redhat.com/dzickus. You can download the patched kernel from: http://centos.toracat.org/kernel/centos5/vmware463573/ I have test-installed it on a couple of CentOS-5 x86_64 guests. Still too early to say anything about the clock issue, but so far so good. If you get a chance to give it a try, please share what yo...

VGA boot options in XEN kernel
Hi all, I've got a new LCD 19" monitor. It's a good device, but I always work into a shell environment, so the fonts size is too big for comfortable activity. I've tried to increase the resolution adding the vga=VALUE parameter in kernel-xen line, but it seems not work. Some useful info: [root at horus ~]# uname -a Linux horus 2.6.18-8.1.6.el5xen #1 SMP Thu Jun 14 18:01:24

Security update missing - kernel-2.6.18-128.el5
Please, do not delay this "Important" multiple security update. See https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2009-0225.html for more info. This update is "5.3" kernel but has been released as security update too. RHN pushed this kernel one day ahead of rest of 5.3 packages (on my servers). RH maintains API and ABI (!) compatibility so there is no problem to use this kernel

ASUS PT6 or Intel DX58SO for CentOS?
I'm looking at setting up a new machine to run CentOS 5 and a few VMWare machines to test Windows XP, Vista, and 7. I'm working with a custom PC shop and they've recommended I use either the ASUS PT6 or Intel DX58SO. Any feedback good or bad on either of these? Thanks! --Chris

bnx2 losing connectivity
Hoping someone else has seen this before. I have a few dozen Dell R610 systems with CentOS 5.2 that are using kernels from 5.3 and 5.4 (2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 & 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5), that at random lose layer 2 network connectivity either partially or totally. Running tcpdump on the interface reveals only ARP broadcasts, no responses. Switch reports no packets being received on the interface.

NFS issues
So I'm running nfs to get content to my web servers. Now I've had this problem 2 times (about 2 weeks since the last occurrence). I use drbd on the nfs server for redundancy. Now to my problem: All my web sites stopped responding so I started by checking dmesg and there I found a bunch of this errors || Aug 11 16:00:39 web03 kernel: lockd: server 192.168.20.22 not responding, timed out

Increasing NFS Performance
Greetings all- I have a CentOS 5 (Final) system that is serving up content to several other hosts via NFS. The amount of data transferred is rather small as most of the files are under 100kb and each export has maybe 100 files that are accessed regularly. I'm finding that as I add more hosts accessing the NFS server, the performance seems to be getting poorer. There are obvious delays when

Hi Sadique, Interesting. Any further explanation accompanying those packages? What has been fixed? Will it make it into the official RHEL updates? Does it need to be domU or dom0? ...t "confirmed" the fix is in the test kernel -92. I tried it but it seems to have the same problem as before - when used with clocksource=pit, it hangs on bootup. Wonder if some of you can test this kernel and see how it goes. The test kernel is available from: http://people.redhat.com/dzickus/el5 Akemi
