Has anyone here benchmarked 64-bit 4.2 against a dual core opteron (or Athlon 64x2) vs a pair of physical single-core opterons? It's that time of year again....ordering new workstations. 8-) Cheers,

Network problem (?)
...oblems with Win XP clients connecting on the LAN. I have done packet capture; I noticed that there are many Retransmissions around the time when the error occurs. I have also noticed that the Win XP computer in question initiates transmissions on ports that are not obvious to me (e.g. tns-adv, dyna-access, mcns-tel-ret, and many others, which vary by session). Searched the web about possible causes and solutions to the problem, I found the advice to change the NIC settings from Auto to 100/10 duplex/half duplex - I changed settings, no effect. Could someone help me with this? I can provi...

x84_64 distro: Really worth it ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have so far avoided using the x86_64 distro, sticking to 32 bits on all my servers. My question for all using the 64bits distro is: is it really worth it ? What kind of applications are you running, and what kind of _real_ gain did you have ? klibc breakage on alpha, need porterbox
Hi, is there a DD-accessible porterbox somewhere (slow would be ok, as this is smallish software) with an up-to-date sid (enough to install the recently-built libklibc-dev 2.0~rc5-1 and all other B-D of mksh 40.9.20120518-1, as well as strace and gdb-minimal)? Similarily to http://www.zytor.com/pipermail/klibc/2012-May/003229.html I found klibc-compiled programmes on Alpha to fail (SIGSEGV

routing mail on a different gateway
Hi, I have a linux box with two dsl modems on it (connection is done via pppoe), I''m trying to route default traffic on the primary connection (ppp0) and mail traffic on another one (ppp1). This traffic will come from the localhost. I run Slackware 9.1 (Kernel 2.4.22), recompiled with necessary options for using iproute2. According to the advanced routing howto, I did the following
