Backup of shared data-files
Backup is currently a pretty hot topic - but most of the discussion I've seen has been around backup of the AD and not about files on a share. However, if I'm backing up the files in a Samba share [and lets assume it's a Windows share, with the Windows ACLs] what's a good way to capture the files, AND the ACL data so I could drop that data back on another samba share, if disaster

Fill a matrix using logical arguments?
...AB 02", "AB 03"))) site.veg Is there a way to fill the bank.plot matrix with the results from the vegetation survey, duplicating them appropriately to match sites to plots, even when the number or sites per plot are unequal? i.e. in my example, the row AB 01 in site.veg would be duplicatied for the first two rows, AB 02 only once, and AB 03 twice. Folder Sync for road warriors in a Samba 4.8.x setup?
Hi All, I know this isn't really a Samba question per se but I'm looking for some samba-related advice.. :) I have a very small AD DC setup (5 users) and some end-users (read: teenargers) are now using laptops, which means they don't always have access to the network shares configured by GPO and Logon scripts from the Samba servers when they take the laptop to school. (The Samba

Backup of shared data-files
I'd like to re-flag this. I got a single reply - and wondered if there were any other approaches that I haven't considered - or if someone wants to detail their process. Thanks again -Greg Backup is currently a pretty hot topic - but most of the discussion I've seen has been around backup of the AD and not about files on a share. encrypted destination
Hello I am looking for a method/feature to rsync my files and store them encrypted. While searching for a solution I found some postings about --source-filter and --dest-filter options but these seem to to be implemented. Of cause I could encrypt and them rsync but this costs double of space and a lot of CPU Power. So my questions is how do the experts this? a) is there an option to encrypt the

Backup of shared data-files
Hi Greg, I'm assuming the reason for this was that Robert's answer pretty much covered it. Most backup tools still in development, and I'm including rsync here, do support extended attributes, so you're covered when it comes to ACL. The main question becomes if you need the backup itself to be encrypted, and if yes you might want to look at alternatives to rsync. I heard good

CentOS Server Backup Options
What do you guys recommend for backing up a small CentOS server in a business environment. It will have (3) 300gb drives in a raid 5 array but I don't anticipate more than about 25gb of data that needs to be backed up each night. I want a lot of backups with a rotation scheme that included daily, weekly, and monthly copies. I want the daily copies of the data kept until the next week, and
