Partek has Dunn-Sidak Multiple Test Correction. Is this the same/similar to any of R's p.adjust.methods?
The Partek package (www.partek.com) allows only two selections for Multiple
Test Correction: Bonferroni and Dunn-Sidak. Can anyone suggest why Partek
implemented Dunn-Sidak and not the other methods that R has? Is there any
particular advantage to the Dunn-Sidak method?
R knows about these methods (in R 2.1.1):

Help understanding cutree used for Dunn Index
Basic question:
Is it correct to assume that when using cutree to set the # clusters
(say k=4), cutree determines the clusters by the largest distances
among all potential clusters?
I've read the R help for cutree and am using it to define the number
of groups to obtain Dunn Index scores (using clValid library) for
cluster analysis (using Euclidean Distance and Ward's method)

count ties after rank?
Hello!
I need to use Kruskal-Wallis test and post-hoc test (Dunn's test) for my data. But when I searched around, I only found this function: kruskal.test. But nothing for Dunn's test.
So I started to write one myself. But I do not know how to count ties in the data frame. I can use for loops but it seems long and unnecessary since the rank function actually knows the ties. So

Adding LaTeX cross-references into Sweave plots
Hi all
I'm using Sweave and LaTeX, and love how they interact.
But here's a different interaction I'm not sure how to achieve; I
hope someone can help. I use a simple example, of course, to
demonstrate.
Suppose in my LaTeX document I have this:
Here is a linear equation:
\begin{equation}
y = -1 + 3 x
\label{EQ:example}
\end{equation}
This appears in the final product

The best way to end up with WMF files
Hi all
I am doing some stats work for a group of biologists
who require windows metafiles (*.wmf) for their publications.
To create these, I appear to have two choices:
1. Restart my machine in Windows and use savePlot
2. Keep my machine in linux, save as another format,
then convert.
I'd rather stay in linux; but how do I get wmf files? I looked
at using ImageMagick's convert,

Bug/Error in formatC? (Was: Why doesn't formatC( x, digits=2, format= "g")...)
Hi all
After posting what follows, Duncan Murdoch suggested perhaps a bug
in formatC, or an error on documentation. Any comments?
In particular, bug, error or not, any ideas about how I can
consistently get two significant figures to print?

Dunn's post hoc test
Hi Everyone.
I am rather new to R and I've been trying to implement a function to
carry out the above test. For a couple of days now I've been stuck on
how to generate average rank differences.
Say I have a vector of average ranks:
averank<- c(2,5,9,12)
I would like to subtract averank[1] from averank[2], averank[1] and
averank[2] from averank[3] and averank[1], averank[2] and

Hello,
I am using the dunn metric, but something is wrong and I dont understand
what or what that this error mean. Please can you help me with this?
The instructions are:
#Indice de Dunn
disbupa=dist(bupa[,1:6])
a=hclust(disbupa)
cluster.stats(disbupa,a,bupa[,7])$dunn
And the error is:
Error in max(clustering) : invalid 'type' (list) of argument

Sweave: pass scale parameter to includegraphics?
Hi all
I'm using Sweave and find it a treat. But one
question:
I use Sweave to create my pictures which are
automatically included into LaTeX. For example,
in the file test.Snw, I may have:
% LaTeX stuff
\begin{figure}
<<fig=true,width=5,height=5>>=
x1 <- seq(1,5, length=10)
x2 <- sin(x1)
plot(x1,x2)

Help converting a function from S-Plus to R: family$weight
Hi all
I am converting an S-Plus function into R. The S-Plus code
uses some of the glm families, and family objects.
The family objects in S-Plus and R have many different
features, for example:
In R:
> names(Gamma())

Importing dates from SPSS file
...600
[34] 13478400000 13504665600 13490150400 13504060800 13471401600 13492915200
13465958400 13445136000
I have looked around the documentation but can find nothing similar there or
in Spector's chapter on Dates
How do I coerce these to %d%m%Y form?
Thank you for your time and patience

Indexing from two variables
...any suggestions on
1)getting this to work
2) making it more elegant (or perhaps just less clumsy)
If I have been unclear in any way I beg your pardons.
I do understand I haven't combined any data above, I think if I can generate a long-format dataframe I can combine them all on my own

DHCP configuration for Cisco 7960?
(Apologies to those Toronto Asterisk Users' Group folks who have seen
this message... I figured I'd have more success with a wider audience)
I'm trying to boot a Cisco 7960 from an ISC DHCPD server (3.0.3 on
FreeBSD 4.11), so far unsuccessful, and getting some odd behaviour on
the wire. I wonder if anyone has done this before and therefore can
validate whether or not the traffic I am

Creating libraries: Cannot make help

I am trying to package a library in R 1.6.1 (Windoze XP).
I have read the document "Writing R extensions" and think I
have done things correctly (though apparently not). I have
searched the mail archives for help to no avail.
I also posted a few days ago and thanks to Peter Dalgaard I have
managed to focus my search for errors.

Two questions
Hi all
Two questions:
1. I note that help for the postscript device claims "The
postscript produced by R is EPS (Encapsulated PostScript)
compatible...". It does not say it is EPS *compliant*.
Indeed, the EPS produced by R includes a \showpage command
which I believe (not that I'm an expert!) non-standard EPS.
My question: Is there any reason why it is EPS compatible,

Sweave issue: quotes in verbatim-like output print incorrectly
Hi all
I love Sweave; use it all the time.
But I recently received a new computer, and ever since I
have had a problem I've never seen before.
For example, I place the following in my Snw file:
<<>>=
sms <-
read.table("http://www.sci.usq.edu.au/staff/dunn/Datasets/applications/popular/smsspeed.dat",
header=TRUE)
attach(sms)

listing a sequence of vectors in a matrix
Hi,
I'm having trouble applying the matrix function. I'd like to be able to
create a matrix of vectors filled in by rows, which are not all the same
length, and so I need it to fill in NAs where applicable.
It's easiest to explain with a simple example:
Suppose vec = c(3,4,5). How can I form a matrix of the vectors 1:vec[j]
for j=1:3?
i.e. 1 2 3 NA NA

R/S-Plus equivalent to Genstat "predict": predictions over "averages" of covariates
Hi all
I'm doing some things with a colleague comparing different
sorts of models. My colleague has fitted a number of glms in
Genstat (which I have never used), while the glm I have
been using is only available for R.
He has a spreadsheet of fitted means from each of his models
obtained from using the Genstat "predict" function. For
example, suppose we fit the model of the type
