[mgcv][gam] Manually defining my own knots?
Dear List,
I'm using GAMs in a multiple imputation project, and I want to be able
to combine the parameter estimates and covariance matrices from each
completed dataset's fitted model in the end. In order to do this, I
need the knots to be uniform for each model with partially-imputed
data. I want to specify these knots based on the quantiles of the
unique values of the non-missing

how do I download pictures from a dumb phone?
How do I download pictures from a dumb phone?
I have a Samsung phone I bought at a Walmart.
According the the front, it worships Verizon.
Beyond that, I'm not at all sure what kind.
If I use a real USB connector to connect it to my PC,
CentOS sees it as a character special device.
What, if anything, I can do with that device, I do not know.
I've not found any settings related to USB.

Add text/numbers to x axis?
Is there any simple way to add text to the x axis in R? I have tried to
add simple characters in R without any greater sucess. As an example of
what I want to do is the added C in the following "dumb" plot (produced
with MacAnova using the option "dumb:T"):

sambaProfilePath
dumb question...
if I put \\SERVER\PROFILES\%u in sambaProfilePath for some user and that
user logs in for the first time, it literally creates a %u directory in
the proper folder and not the uid name. Am I dumb? Must I actually hard
code each one in?

Dumb question (KDE Trash Can)
Hi All,
I've got a really dumb question. I seem to have lost my Trash Can on my
KDE desktop and try and as I might I can't get it back. Anyone have any
idea how I can create this again or get it back? It's on the desktop as
it should be in Gnome, but has disappeared from the KDE desktop.

Dumb question time
Hi Everyone,
Sorry for the dumb question but I'm obviously missing something. One of
our users found an odd behavior with SAMBA which I can't explain, but
believe it to be related to the SAMBA/Unix permission mapping. Here's
what happens:
A file existing on a SAMBA share with unix permissions 755
e.g. -rw-r--r-- 1 root other 0 Dec 17 08:51 test.txt

"dumb" SATA controller recommendation
Just wondering if any 4.2 users out there have a favourite "dumb" PCI
controller to add a couple of SATA ports to a motherboard that doesn't
include SATA support. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just 2 SATA
ports that a recent vintage kernel will recognize without a lot of
configuration gymnastics. The intended use is for relatively light
weight internet browser

Really dumb question
Just got dovecot running inside MEPIS 3.3.2 SOHO (debian). I am impressed. It works really well and I am planning to move my mail away from my Win server and access the mail from dovecot using imap. I have copied some folders from my existing Outlook mail system into the imap mail server without any problems....so here is the dumb question: where are the mail files/folders stored on the MEPIS

A dumb question on extracting a value from a hash
Hi,
I have the following code fragment;
@comm_type = Communication.find_by_sql(''select id from
communication_types where upper(description) = "EMAIL"'')
Which results in

=> [#<Communication:0x39a0f60 @attributes={"id"=>"4"}>]
But when I try to test an ActiveREcord against this it doesn''t work;

Dumb Dialout Question
I'm still trying to learn some parts of Asterisk, so sorry in advance for the dumb question!
How do I set up an extension to dial out to the PSTN through my ZAP interfaces? I want the ability to have a ring group that will ring all of the phones in an office and then ring cell phones if nobody answers. I'm sure this is simple to do but I'm at a loss.
I have tried the following

how do I download pictures from a dumb phone?
Inserting anything other than a USB cable into the phone seems to be a no-go.
There is one slightly wider and thinner recess,
but no metal is in it.
It looks like a slightly less dumb model would use
the same outer case and a somewhat different inner case.

Dumb Question about Domains and PDC's
Dumb Question...
What is the value of a Domain in a small Samba-server environment? Why is
it better than a "security = user"?
What are the drawbacks of a Domain in a small (singleserver even)
environment?
Thanks!

Dumb Point 'n Shoot Printer Driver Question
Just finished TOSHARG (again) and S3 By Example.
All of the examples I saw that featured point 'n shoot printer driver
installation on Windows clients have Samba performing as a domain
controller.
So here's the Dumb Question: Is it necessary that Samba be a DC for
point 'n shoot printer driver installation to work? Can Samba be a
standalone server and have this work?
Thanks!

how can I monitor a (dumb) switch ?
Hello there,
Can anyone help me with a problem i have....
I have an ethernet LAN, made over dumb fast-ethernet switches
(10/100mbit) without management, so there is no IP for the switches.
What I want, if possible, is to find out if a switch is down or not.
It''s like with routers... if you want to find out if a router is OK,
either you send ICMP directly to the router, or to a host
