[LLVMdev] Dependence Analysis
Hi, everyone. I've been examining llvm for a while and been duly impressed. I'd like to contribute in the area of dependence analysis, and a good place to start seems to be in the transformation of pointers to explicit array accesses. Is anyone else working on this? If not, does this seem a plausible place to start and how would be the best way to go...

Switching from Vesa driver to video adapter driver fails
The Vesa driver works fine with CentOS 4.4. I have an NVidia 6200 video adapter. I go to Applications | System Settings | Display | Hardware tab and find my video adapter in the list and set it. The dialog tells me I have to log out for it to take effect, so I duly do that. I then getting a message from a non-graphics screen saying that the attempt to switch to the video adapter failed. When I view why, amidst all the information given is the messages: (EE) No devices detected. Fatal server error: No screens found I am able to switch back to the Vesa dri...

use of NULL environment is deprecated?
...day 01 svn rev 38247 language R version.string Version 2.3.1 (2006-06-01) I see in the NEWS file the line: o Use of NULL as an environment is deprecated and gives a warning. Which duly happens. I get warnings like this: > Warning message: use of NULL environment is deprecated My problem is that I don't know what is being referred to. A little birdie tells me that in later versions of R, those warnings will become errors so I need to work out where they're coming fro...

Bug#312376: /etc/logcheck/logcheck.ignore is no longer read
Package: logcheck Version: 1.2.39 Severity: normal Since I've upgraded my servers to sarge, I'm getting mail every hour for stuff that was duly included in /etc/logcheck/logcheck.ignore. Turns out that sarge's version no longer reads that file. If this was a conscious decision, then there should be some warning about this when upgrading (via debconf of NEWS.Debian). Also, the documentation should suggest a location for local rules....

I do think, however, that if you did this specifically to disenfranchise your previous collaborator you would be morally in the wrong, and substantially so. > > The work of the other author is duly acknowledged in his position in the > authors' list. > As I previously wrote, citing Dusa and Other (2015) implies equal citation > rights for unequal work, a thing that I am uncomfortable with. Superposing data on boxplot
Hi folks, I have a vaiable Y and an associated factor Z at several (13) levels. boxplot(Y~Z) produces a nice array of boxplots, one for each level of Z, and each duly labaelled with its level of Z. I would like to superpose on each boxplot the actual data points which it represents, i.e. do something conceptually (though not in real R) expressed as points(Y~Z) or points(Z,Y) It can be done "with bare hands" along the lines of B<-boxplot(...

XP Pro client cannot access stand-alone linux samba server
Hi, I am trying to set up my internet connection sharing linux box as a stand-alone samba server. When i try to access the server from a Windows XP Pro client using \\192.168.0.1 i get a dialog box asking for a username and password. I duly enter this and the dialog box immediately re-appears without connecting me to the share. There exists both a samba and linux account with the same password which is also the same as the XP Pro logon. The XP Pro box is not set up to logon to a domain, both of the boxes are on the same workgrou...

[LLVMdev] Using C++'11 language features in LLVM itself

As before, they are duly annotated > with a remark. It's much smaller than these headline features, but how about commas at the end of enum lists? Could be useful for keeping revision-control logs in good shape. Tim.

dovecot + pigeonhole on CentOS-7
I've everything running fine under CentOS-7, as far as I can tell, except that spam is not being diverted to my spam folder ~/Maildir/.Spam . I'm running postfix + spamass-milter + spamass-milter-postfix + dovecot (+ spamassassin), and spam is being duly marked before ending in my inbox . As far as I can see, the current advice is to leave filtering to dovecot, using the dovecot-pigeonhole rpm. I'm wondering if anyone else is doing this? If so, what settings exactly did you use? I haven't been able to find any clear documentation, or rath...

OT: SysAdmin Stories
...9;t promise money but I can promise 15 minutes of fame. The stories will be accumulated over the next few months and go into a book about real world experiences of Systems Administrators and Systems Engineers. Some of the material may be used in our training classes, as well. All stories will be duly credited and I'll even buy a beer (or other non-alcoholic beverage) for anyone I ever meet in person. Stories may be edited for grammar or clarity. This book is still in the proposal stage so there is no firm target date, yet. If for some reason the book is not published (just like tech pr...

Asterisk 1.0.9 long term stability <--thread hijack, why not reboot?
..."If you have to reboot, your server isn't set up correctly" to which I say piffle. Even NASA has rebooted the Mars probes after they land and I understand that they run VXWorks, incidentally, the same RTOS that my Mitel 3300 uses, and *even Mitel* recommends periodic reboots, which we duly cron every night, 2 AM. 24/7/365 installs aside, is there a reason why reboots seem to be frowned upon? Again, not trolling, just curious.

Missing syslinux utility in zip?
As a complete newbie, I needed to use syslinux to do what it does. I duly went and downloaded syslinux_6.01.zip from https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/ Unzipped in Xp and tried the syslinux -xa drive letter: to get usb to work, it did not. After investigating the win32 folder there is no syslinux? Versions 5.01 and below have it , why has it been rem...

Back when grub2 oozed into Fedora, I made a small page, both as a reminder for myself and to stop repeating answers on the Fedora forums. You probably don't need it, but just in case.

New users cannot log on, current users okay
...pect that the problem may well be related to the 'minor' problem we experienced with the server the other day - the system disk crashed and burned, so we had to rebuild the system from scratch. I had however got copies of all of the password and shadow files, secrets.tdb etc which were all duly copied back into place on the new server. The server is up and running fine (i.e. file and print sharing is working 100% for those who already had a username/password on the system), however users that have been added since the rebuild cannot log onto domain controlled PC's at all, receiving t...
