Is there a new way to search the listserv archives?
I see the link here <https://alioth-lists.debian.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/nut-upsuser>, but clicking it results in a 404. Before I waste everyone's time posting my question, I really wanted to search to see if it's been solved already. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

I don't know of a baked-in official method, but the "site:alioth-lists.debian.net/pipermail/nut-upsuser/" search modifier should work with both DuckDuckGo and Google. building R under mingw 4.7
...nks against R using Rcpp. Qt5 requires Mingw 4.7, where as R seems to require Mingw 4.6. This makes linking against R problematic. Has anyone successfully built R with Mingw 4.7 (or 4.8)? fingerprint reader on C-7 ???
Hi all! I just got a new (to me) used laptop (HP EliteBook 8530p) and find that it has a fingerprint reader. Wondering if it could be made to work for me (Centos-7) I did a lot of googling (well, actually duck-duck-go-ing) and found a ton of hits on either setting it up in Windoze, or others wondering if it can be used in Linux. Some info on setting it up in Ubuntu, and a couple of pages on

FYI: http
I just had to browse to a printer... and with https-use-strict at a server higher up, firefox *would* *not* let me get there. I don't see the circa-2012 printer offering https. Luckily, there was konqueror, which *did* let me go to http://<printer> I just *adore* SmartSoftware that Won't Let You Endanger Yourself.... Reminds me of Jack Williamson's old novel, The Humanoids.

What is /etc/subuid ?
...seradd matches And CentOS 7 machines indeed may have that file name in the useradd binary. None of CentOS 6 machines has that. I tried to do FreeBSD-ism: man /etc/subuid came empty, and realized that I'm doing FreeBSD-ism. I tried to do search on the web (did not "google", I use duckduckgo... so I "did search"), and came pretty much empty. Is it just me, or indeed something in CentOS 7 indeed changed? And what is it? Another question on the same note: how do we find out what the file is about and is used for in Linux, apart from searching on the web. (When there are s...

DuckDuckGo suggested that I copy the script to /etc/rc.d/rc.local and make it executable; however, I have tried that a few times and the script simply does not execute. photos on iPhone 6
For the OP: Did you even try Google before asking the list? Google should always be your first choice. http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/linux-iphone-6.html For Scott: If you install the VLC app on the iPad you can probably skip the transcoding and also having to add the video to iTunes first. You'll only need to transcode the audio if it uses AC3, which is proprietary and the owners

I then add back in those trusts essential for my browser operation as empirical evidence warrants. So I must trust certain DigiCert certificates for GitHub and DuckDuckGo, GeoTrust for Google, COMODO for Wikipedia, and so forth. These I set the trust flags for web services only. The rest can go pound salt as we used to say. [1] https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2013/12/09/serious-security-google-finds-fake-but-trusted-ssl-certificates-for-its-domains-made-in-franc...

Multiple Assignment built into the R Interpreter?
Dear R Core, working on my dynamic factor modelling package, which requires several subroutines to create and update several system matrices, I come back to the issue of being annoyed by R not supporting multiple assignment out of the box like Matlab, Python and julia. e.g. something like A, C, Q, R = init_matrices(X, Y, Z) would be a great addition to the language. I know there are several

ExecShield in C6 or C7 kernels?
...execshield in any of the files in /etc/grub.d So, as far as I can see, there are no settings that I would expect to force ExecShield to an ON setting. I DO see, in /proc/sys/kernel, a file named randomize_va_space, and it contains a value of "2". I've been googling (well, actually DuckDuckGo-ing) and most of the articles I find regarding ExecShield are 3-10 years old. I'd appreciate pointers/guides/info on ExecShield in C6 or C7. thanks in advance! Helps filling search providers databases, especially if they fed you unexpiring cookie. But not all of search engines do that crap, duckduckgo doesn't as far as I know. </rant> Anyway, question for everybody: does anybody know decent browser to replace Firefox? (Please, do not offer google chrome, thank you again). I use midori for quite some time, I didn't fully switch over to midori from Firefox, however. I didn't get...
