memory
To whom it may concern, I seem to be encountering RAM problems using R. I am currently running R 2.2.0 in Windows XP version 2002. My computer has 4 GB of RAM. The problem I am encountering is that R does not seem to allow me to obtain more than 1.5GB of RAM as I construct various matrices. I have already pre-allocated 3.5 GB of RAM as in the command line I entered under

optimization with Sparse matrices
To whom it may concern, I am trying to maximize a log-likelihood function using optim. This is a simple problem with only 18 parameters. To conserve memory, I am using sparse matrices (SLAM) for some of the data matrices used in the computation of the likelihood. However, optim appears to convert the sparse matrix back to regular data format. This causes me to run out of memory as R tries to

tapply output as a dataframe
i use tapply and by often, but i always end up banging my head against the wall with the output. is there a simpler way to convert the output of the following tapply to a dataframe or matrix than what i have here: # setup data for tapply dt = data.frame(bucket=rep(1:4,25),val=rnorm(100)) fn = function(x) { ret = c(unname(quantile(x,probs=seq(.25,.75,.25),na.rm=T)),mean(x,na.rm=T)) } a =

Samba works only with ROOT & Samba Client can't access Windows XP Shares
I just started learning to use Samba. I just have the default shares it starts with. When I try to access them I can only use the ROOT account to do it. How can I use my normal account, that I have on the system, to access my shares from another networked computer? The other computer is running Windows XP and I setup shares on there as well. When I browse for host I can see it but it wont

slow access to matrix dimnames
hello, i have been trying to convert my data frames to matrices in the hopes of speeding up some of my more complicated scripts. to assist with this, i am trying to create a "matrix column operator" like $: "%$%" = function(data, field) { as.numeric(data[,grep(field,unlist(dimnames(data)[2]))]) } the idea here is that you can use a matrix like a dataframe:

Problem with RMA using limma, oligo and pdInfoBuilder packages
Hi, I am a Ph.D. student from Québec, Canada. I’m a beginner with R and Bioconductor. Until now the only experience I have is in analyzing microarray data using affy and limma packages. Now I am trying to analyze Rat Gene 10 st arrays and I would like to run RMA analysis and Smyth moderated t test on those arrays. Since no cdf official package is available for those arrays, after reading many

courier-imap 2 Dovecot Migration
I have a question about migration from courier-imap. I have a server running courier-imap which I'd like to change to dovecot. The problem at hand is that there are POP3 users as well as IMAP4 users. Some of the POP3 users have the option to "leave a copy of the message on the server" set in their MuAs. Is it possible to migrate from courier-imap --> Dovecot and not have these

Unusual IMAP config.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, perhaps a silly question, perhaps an unusual one, I don't know. I'm trying to suss out how to set up Dovecot in such a way as to have two separate IMAP services running on the same system. To explain. We have an "internally-facing" IMAP and an "externally-facing" one. It's policy that anyone connecting to IMAP
