Dear Devel-list member,
by checking a small exemplatory package during the DSC2003 in Vienna I
encountered the following error message (see attachment). Thomas Lumley has
suggested to me posting the problem to this list. You help is appreciated.

Winedt and R on Windows XP
Dear All;
I have used Winedt editor in conjunction with R on the Win2K
platform for more than a year without any problem. Recently I purchased a P4
machine with Windows XP. Following the installation of R1.62 and WinEdt 5.3
to separate directories, I copied R-WinEdt to the Plugins subdirectory under
the Winedt directory, clicked on the "install" file and edited the Rprofile

A package for spatial data classes: request for comments
...h like time, spatial locations are not likely to change for observed
data. Still, R has no infrastructure or knowledge about spatial locations.
Many packages that deal with spatial data in R use their own classes
to deal with spatial data. On the workshop on spatial statistics software
held during DSC2003 (organized by Roger Bivand), we decided that
a base class that defines classes for spatial data should be helpful,
both as an exchange platform and (later) as a required package for
working with spatial data (compare the ts class for time series).
I started writing such a package, and opened a sou...

New CRAN package sp: classes and methods for spatial data
...determination of hole polygons from shapefiles
- plotting filled polygons with holes
- gdal read/write support
- GRASS 6.0 support
The development of this package is a joint effort of Virgilio Gomez-Rubio,
Barry Rowlinson, Roger Bivand and Edzer Pebesma, and followed from
discussions held at a pre-DSC2003 workshop [3], announcements on R-sig-geo
[4], and a meeting held last November in Lancaster [5]. A beta release
of sp was announced a while ago on R-sig-geo [6].
With best regards,

idea for "virtual matrix/array" class
I've been wondering how to work with more data than can fit in memory, in a
way that allows it to be worked with conveniently and quickly. Of course,
a database can be used for this purpose, but extracting data from a
database is much slower and somewhat less convenient than extracting data
from a native object (at least in our setup).
One idea I was thinking about was to have a new

(offtopic) I need two sets of 5 different color scales
Hi,
I am plotting a policy function (result from a dynamic stochastic
optimization problem, discretized approximation). The policy function
maps from an 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x B x F state space to a B x F state space
(B and F are usually between 4-6, and represent domestic and foreign
savings. The other variables are income (Y), inflation (Pi), domestic
and foreign interest rates (R and Z)). I
