How does Asterisk scale to 500-1000 phones?
Anyone have opinions on how well Asterisk scales to 500-1000 stations, in regards to reliability, system performance, as well as ease of management? Assume relatively low call volume; let's say two public network PRIs (47 DS0s). -- # Jesse Molina # The Translational Genomics Research Institute # http://www.tgen.org # Mail = jmolina at tgen.org # Desk = 1.602.343.8459 # Cell = 1.602.323.7608

Learn some terminalogy before mounting this task.
All, I have done research on VoIP for some time now. I'm a Cisco certified Network Engineer however Telecom is not my strongest suit. I've been a part of this mailing list for sometime but my delusions of grandeur in migrating our 25 year old phone system to a new platform have been on the back burner, until now. I have found my company is moving to a new location(building) and this

T1 multiplexer (or ?) for failover in large installation
Hi, Please forgive my terminology, still a bit new to T1s and such. I'm looking for a way to have 5 T1s from a carrier terminate into some type of box (multiplexer?), then be able to plug 7 asterisk servers into that box (each with single port T1 card) and be able to have 2 * servers go down at any given time and not actually have the carrier see that anything has happened. Obviously if a *

Say I get an ADIT 600 with two FXS8A and one FXO8A from ebay. a. Is it good for Asterisk? b. How do I connect the extensions and lines to it? Do I need a special jack? Can I get that jack in every corner? c. where can I find help for configuring it? d. what kind of backup does it have? Does it need to be reconfigured after a power outage? Ethernet Channel Bank idea
Anyone ever thought about an Ethernet based channel bank? Basically a rack mount set of 24 IAXys? That would be cool, IMO. No wrangling with zaptel, etc. IAX as the * <-> Channel bank protocol. Just an idea...

Analog FXO Woes Continue
I've been struggling with a test * install for a couple months now in a small office and am just about ready to give up on it. It's not that the system itself is a problem. I've got everything (attendant, voicemail, FXS extensions, Cisco and Polycom hard-IP phones, and 2 VOIP carriers) working except for the frigging analog FXO interfaces. These things are driving me completely mad.

Should I choose DSL @ 1.5 or a full T1?
I'm looking to expand my bandwidth for my Asterisk PBX. Why should I choose a T1 over DSL for my asterisk server? I found someone offering T1's for $290 a month + Loops or 3 Meg for $561 a month + Loops. Is this a good deal? Thanks Bart -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
