Problem mapping Samba shares in Windows
Hi, In our company we are currently running a Samba server and Windows XP clients. At the moment we are having problems with mapping Samba shares in Windows. Shares are being mapped through a windows startup script, which executes net use (with the option persistent:no) command. For most users this works most of the time, nevertheless it often fails, the exect reason for this isn't clear

rbind wastes memory
Hello everybody, if I try to (r)bind a number of large dataframes I run out of memory because R wastes memory and seems to "forget" to release memory. For example I have 10 files. Each file contains a large dataframe "ds" (3500 cols by 800 rows) which needs ~20 MB RAM if it is loaded as the only object. Now I try to bind all data frames to a large one and need more than 1165MB (!) RAM (To simplify the R code, I use the same file ten times): ________ start example 1 __________ load(myFile) ds.tmp <- d...

Samba very slow on one PC and very fast on another.
...week, everything worked well, but I had to reinstall windows due to a harddisk suicide (so sad...). Why is the new windows so, so, so slow ? ---------------------------------------------------- Lets's test the connection : Both Server and Desktop have a Gb ethernet card ; so transfer speeds on FTP, HTTP, or netcat are extremely high : netcat from server to desktop : - about 75% of gigabit wire speed - linux server CPU at 50% system) - windows client CPU at 100% (nearly all "kernel") netcat from desktop to server : - about 95% or gigabit wire speed - linux se...

PXELinux cannot load the config file
I have DHCP and TFTP on a Solaris machine, pxelinux.0 loads, but it can't load the configuration file. The tftp server on Solaris tries to send the file, but data transfers do not receive ACKs. Previous posts to this list have indicated that the suspect was the PXE BIOS (ref "PXELinux can't load the config file?" dated March 20, 2003)....

BadMatch on X_CreateCursor (cvs 010712)
...teCursor. The application attempts to change the mouse pointer shape, shows the pointer as a circle with a diagonal bar (like the european sign for "no parking") and hangs. The app is not supposed to show this mouse pointer shape but usually comes up with the text right away, which it loads from CD. Under normal circumstances the mouse pointer is unchanged while the text is loaded. This happens on Linux kernel 2.2.14, XF86_S3 (!) and glibc-2.1.3 I cannot reproduce this behaviour on another computer with the same motherboard, kernel and glibc but with XF86_SVGA -- duh... Interdependencies of variable types, logical expressions and NA
...tml Examples # Some logical operations do not return NA c(TRUE, FALSE) & NA c(TRUE, FALSE) | NA 2. https://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-devel/library/base/html/Logic.html NA is a valid logical object. Where a component of x or y is NA, the result will be NA if the outcome is ambiguous. In other words NA & TRUE evaluates to NA, but NA & FALSE evaluates to FALSE. See the examples below. ## construct truth tables : x <- c(NA, FALSE, TRUE) names(x) <- as.character(x) outer(x, x, "&") ## AND table outer(x, x, "|") ## OR table Ann. Not very useful. How shoul...
