Quickbooks revisited
I did testing on generating this report from a 130 MB Quickbooks file.
Locally, 15 seconds. Samba Server, 1:35. Shared off of my win98
Workstation, 2+ mins. I do not understand the reason it is SOO slow. I
know it is a fairly large file. The only explanation I can come up with is
the way QuickBooks is accessing the files. Maybe jumping all around the
file, requiring many operations on the

Samba 3.0.12 (gid of user [joe] doesn't exist) Weird error when Client logs on.
Hi,
I just recently purchased a new server and took this opportunity to
upgrade to the latest version of samba (3.0.12). Unfortunatly, I have
some weird occurances. I have a user called "joe" who is my admin
user.
In /etc/passwd I have this:
joe:x:500:500:Joe:/home/joe:/bin/bash
In /etc/group I have this:
admin:x:500:joe
id returns correctly:
uid=500(joe) gid=500(admin)

IPC connections and utmp
Hi,
I am running Samba version 2.2.5 with utmp turned on. I have a problem with
utmp and not displaying who is currently logged in. The basic idea is that
even though a user has logged off the computer (win2k pro) a connection to
IPC$ remains. It gives this.

Change password via CGI script.
I am running Samba 2.2.5 with ldap enabled. To add a user is really
simple and the smbpasswd command works nice to change a password as well.
I was wondering is there an easy way to allow a user to change their
password via a CGI script? I am trying to get passwords synched on all
devices using LDAP and I am pretty comftorable with LDAP module in perl.
Is there a way to update their password by

Win2k, Samba 2.2.5 and LDAP
I can't get a Win2k computer to execute a login script. Also, on both the XP
computer and the w2k computer I get this message in their log file

UTMP problem and Samba
Hi,
I have had a few tiny problems now that i have samba with utmp. First of
all, I killed a few stray smb processes by using kill -9 pid. Well, this
messed up my 'who' and 'finger' readings.
Now I have this

'deadtime' in Samba 3.0.13
Hi,
I currently have deadtime = 15 in my smb.conf. This featured worked good to
disconnect clients that have been idle for > 15 minutes in the past. With
the 3.0.13 version, it seems to do nothing. As in, it just keeps the user
connected indefinitely.
Here is what I see when no one is currently at the office and everyone is
logged off their computer.
Thanks

Samba, Passwd, LDAP auth
Hi,
I have searched all over and I am at a deep loss.
I have Openldap setup and it works fine holding users and is searchable,
etc.
I have samba setup to auth via LDAP and it works.
I can NOT for the life of me get system password stuff to work.
The strange thing is, that my "testuser" can telnet to the computer and
login and can login with samba fine. I can not ssh into the
