Incompatible change in R-devel
As of today's commit r72375 all packages with native-routine registration of C or Fortran routines need to be reinstalled in R-devel (and that include some of the recommended packages in R itself which will not be reinstalled via make dependencies, so we advise a clean rebuild of R). We try to avoid such things, but now is a least bad time (before binary packages for pre-3.4.0 are built

[LLVMdev] load widening conflicts with AddressSanitizer
...ictly speaking -- all these cases are bugs, according to either C or C++ standard, and asan does not impose more restrictions than the standard. Note, that the hacks like these hurt not only address safety checkers like asan/memcheck/drmemory/SAFEcode/etc, but also race detectors like tsan/helgrind/drd/etc. We still have lots of code with these intentional OOB accesses and we want to test it. In most cases I've met so far, the developers decided to actually fix the bugs according to the C++ standard and require the memory allocation to have up to 7 extra bytes. I do expect that sometimes thi...

wine basics
...oin to work with wine? So I started to think on wine. How does it work? What is it made of? With git I got latest wine source code, and I had a look on some how-tos. But I did not get the point. An exe file is loaded with the wine loader. The loader wrapps somehow the SW, so the library calls (e.g drd) are mapped to wine libraries. Can anybody tell me how this works in detail? Since exe files will execute assembler code. Is there some documentation about this? I am C-programmer, so I can read source code. But I need some hints to understand wine really. Thanks a lot! Kind regards

Having both R-current and R-devel installed on Ubuntu
Hi Dirk, I too would need to get R-devel on my Ubuntu box (alongside an existing R installation) to check my packages, especially given the mayhem that awaits us when the new `R CMD check --as-cran` goes live. ( http://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-devel/doc/html/NEWS.html ) I was wondering if the script that you posted on r-sig-debian a couple years back was still valid. More however, I'd like to

Register Allocation Graph Coloring algorithm and Others
Hi GCC and LLVM developers, I am learning Register Allocation algorithms and I am clear that: * Unlimited VirtReg (pseudo) -> limited or fixed or alias[1] PhysReg (hard) * Memory (20 - 100 cycles) is expensive than Register (1 cycle), but it has to spill code when PhysReg is unavailable * Folding spill code into instructions, handling register coallescing, splitting live ranges, doing
