Any hints about compiling syslinux 6.03-pre9 on AMD64?
...led to load COM32 file vesamenu.c32".
I am sure all the settings are correct because if I switch to the
prebuilt syslinux downloaded from
https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/Testing/6.03/syslinux-6.03-pre9.tar.xz
then it works very well.
My deb is here:
http://free.nchc.org.tw/drbl-core/pool/drbl/unstable/syslinux/
and the build log:
http://free.nchc.org.tw/drbl-core/pool/drbl/unstable/syslinux/syslinux_6.03~pre9+drbl-1_amd64.build
Anything I have to pay attention when compiling on AMD64/X86-64 arch?
Thanks in advance.
Steven.

Clonezilla SE with CentOS5
Hi all,
I'm looking for a cloning solution for our Windows/Linux/*nix computer park
and ran into Clonezilla. Apparantely the DRBL and other documentation
mentions CentOS as a suitable base for it.
Does anybody on this list use this solution and can say something about it
in the running-Clonezilla-with-CentOS-context, be it recommendations,
gotchas', warnings or whatever?
Thanks.

Comments sought on the graphical menu infrastructure
Hi all,
I would really appreciate feedback on the graphical menu system and its
infrastructure. It's not really clear to me that it's what people want;
it seems to me that it makes more sense than gfxboot, for example (C
rather than pseudo-Forth), but I can understand people would disagree.
Anyway, the more feedback I get the easier it will be to pick a
direction and a priority for

Determine high i/o reads/write directories
I have a DRBL server, basically an nfs fileserver, which I am
rebuilding. I want to put the high i/o directories on a separate raid
array for performance. Currently everything is under / in one raid
array.
How can I tell which directories, obviously other than /home, are
getting high reads and/or writes? Any to...

Read only nfsroot and diskless booting CentOS 6?
Does anyone have any good how-to's or documentation on setting up read only root NFS for pxe booting diskless computers? A few months ago I stumbled upon an official Redhat doc through a google search(not hosted by redhat and I cannot find it anywhere on the Redhat site) written by Dave Kline named "Configuring diskless clients with Red Hat Enterprise Linux" from 2011. It seemed to

best practice: how to setup a central "network installation server"?
Hi,
I want to setup a central installation server, but haven't done this before,
so I want to find out what would be best practices for this?
The server I have already runs as a central repo, which is updated from one
or our local centos mirrors, and the other CentOS servers (both i386 & x64),
as well as CentOS VPS's get their updates from this server.
But, now I want to allow a

[OT] PXE Boot / image server for non-profit's computers
This is the best collection of minds I can think of on this topic, that's why it
is on this list. I think it is too subjective for stackoverflow.
So here is the problem:
The community center has multiple computers for the children (and adult
students) to use. These computer are always donated and the hardware is all
different. Currently the systems are running Windows (but this may change).

centos Installation on Multiple machines
Hi,
I want to install customized centos on multiple systems. Can PXE boot do
that ?
Apart from this is there any other way of doing image copy of centos OS
and installing it on several client machines through network. I used
clonezilla, but after image cloning, i will again have to use the
clonezilla LIVE CD on client machine to do a image restore.
I want to make a clone of centos OS and

How to copy a system?
Is there a standard way of copying a working system
from one machine to another with different partitions?
I have two CentOS-5.6 machines, say A and B,
and I thought I would copy / on sdb10 on machine A
to an unused partition sda7 on machine B with rsync.
I made the appropriate changes to /etc/fstab and grub.conf ,
as well as /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts ,
but found that there were innumerable

Spybot Search and Destroy
Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to read my post.
I am using ubuntu 8.04 DRBL in an IT setting that has wine 1.1.16 installed with Spybot S&D. We use it to PXE boot virus-infected computers to scan them without threatening a real installation, and without the hassle of live-cds.
Spybot has a switch (/allhives) that detects multiple windows installations for scanning, an...

How to run server side script from boot menu selection ?
...le or how to do.
Scenario:
A pxelinux.cfg boot menu item to load a pristine image.
This would execute a script on the linux server providing the pxe boot service to copy / rsync a pristine image and boot from that image. Or at least just do the copy on the server side.
Context:
I am setting up a drbl (diskless remote boot linux) environment at a public library. I would like users to be able to add software, make changes to the image as they want (free as in open source). Then the next user can just boot from a pristine image by rebooting and selecting that option. For this to work I need the px...

CentOs6 - Ltsp
Dear All,
I'm sending this mail in relation to a post on the CentOs 6 forum :
https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=32545&start=0#forumpost139559
CentOs 6 works great so far, and I do not want to sound impatient, but
I'm eager to find out when Ltsp would be
available on CentOs6 - or even in Rhel6.
We now use Kiwi-Ltsp on OpenSuse and

yum install to a portable location
I have googled, read the man page, and such.
What I am trying to do is install applications to a NFS mounted drive,
where the libraries and everything are locally installed on that
filesystem so that it is portable across servers (I have over 100
servers which each need specific applications installed via yum and we
do not want to install 100 copies).
We tried the yum relocate and it was not
