Box-Cox Transformation: Drastic differences when varying added constants
Dear experts,
I tried to learn about Box-Cox-transformation but found the following thing:
When I had to add a constant to make all values of the original variable
positive, I found that
the lambda estimates (box.cox.powers-function) differed dramatically
depending on the specific constant chosen.
In addition, the correlation between the transformed variable and the
original were not 1 (as I

system() app changed drastically! How do I use it now?
We upgraded to the latest version of asterisk (because we needed some
newer features), only to find all our PIN applications accepting any
number the caller makes up!
I traced this to the System application completely changing the way it
deals with success or failure of the program it calls.
Previously, if the PIN was completely bogus, we exited with -1, which
caused asterisk to jump to priority

Memory usage decreases drastically after save workspace, quit, restart, load workspace
Dear all,
I have the following problem:
- I have written a program in R which runs out of physical memory
on my MacBook Pro with 1.5 GB RAM
- The memory usage is much higher then I would expect from the
actual data in my global environment
- When I save the workspace, quit R, restart R and load the
workspace again, memory usage is much less then before
(~50 MB instead of ~1.5

[LLVMdev] Looking for a fix to memory leak in DWARF support
...on their project...
I seem to remember that there has been a major fix related to it, but
finding it hard to pinpoint. So the appeal to the communal memory - do you
remember if there was a single fix (since the middle of 2012 or so) that
would have addressed such issue?
I know the code was drastically change since - I have seen this for
instance
llvm.org/viewvc/llvm-project/llvm/trunk/lib/MC/ELFObjectWriter.cpp?view=log&
pathrev=205990
...but not sure this is what I am looking for, and whether there is
something less drastic than I can do to plug that leak.
Any clue would be very much appr...

Gradually adjust NTP sync over time?
Suppose you have server A and server B. Server B is running 60
seconds too fast, while server A is accurate. Is there a way to
gradually move server B's time back into sync with server A, without
making a drastic, immediate change to the clock? In other words, we
would like to 'smear' the difference across several hours or days to
ensure there are no drastic changes in timestamps,

Hey there,
Been googling but can't find. Thought to ask the wizards.
The LLVM interpreter. I am creating a simple wrapper around it to run
a script. The program after linking is about 25 megs stripped of
debug symbols.
This seems a bit large.
Is it possible that this could somehow to be drastically reduced?
Is it worth going and trying to rip things out?
The code which instantiates the interpreter is here:
https://github.com/timprepscius/llvmscriptdemo/blob/master/src/llvmscriptdemo.cpp
Any help/advice/etc, greatly appreciated.

Is their any plugin/gem available to improve performance
Hi All,
I am having an ror application with ruby1.8.7 and rails2.3.5, the
performance of my application is not good enough. Is their any plugin or
gem available to improve the performance. Also I have already optimized
some of my code and db queries by optimizing the mysql query and by adding
indexes, but those are not gave drastic change in the performance.

Loganathan

Ack...OpenSSH no longer compatible with SSH 1.2.26 clients?
I just tried, on a whim, to use an OpenSSH client vs SSH 1.2.26 client,
and I can connect with it...
Something drastic change between pre23 and pre24? Then again, I can't get
pre23 to work anymore either, after further investigation :( OpenSSH
clients connect no problem, just not the old SSH 1.2.26 clients ...

realtime mysql for 1.8
Hi,
I'm going to have a go with realtime mysql.
Just wondering, most examples i came across while googling, was with 1.6
systems.
So any drastic changes with 1.8.3, table-layout? other pitfalls?

Close list to outsider's posts?
Hi
I'm assuming that Wayne is the obvious destination for this request. Can
we make the mailing list reject emails from non-subscribers? This would
drastically reduce the amount of spam we receive.
Thanks,

Samba consuming massive amounts of memory (CONT)
Concerning Samba consuming memory, I forgot to add one thing, sorry.
The process listing does not show Smbd consuming the memory. "free -m" just
reports a drastic increase when I use Samba.
Relevant portions of ps -fwaux:
root 6412 0.0 0.0 10060 2548 ? S 08:01 0:00
/usr/sbin/smbd -D -s /etc/samba/smb.conf

[LLVMdev] Pass to remove unused functions
In order to handle a large vector based math library I link in a fairly
large bitcode file that might or might not be needed. The problem is
that linking in this bitcode file drastically increases the amount of
compile time required. Is there a way to remove all functions that are
not used after this linking pass? Something similar to die but removes
functions from the compilation unit instead of instructions.
Thanks,
Micah

[LLVMdev] Windows development and "virus" in LLVM test suite
1. I can't tell Microsoft Security Essentials to ignore anything. Even if
I click Allow, it breaks the pull.
2. The issue is not me. I don't download virus infested stuff and I don't
visit dangerous sites so I rarely have a need for antivirus solutions.
The issue is the newcomer Windows user whom I have to instruct to disable
and/or remove his antivirus program if he or she wants to

Version 1.2beta2 is out!
Hi everyone,
I just released Speex 1.2beta2.
Release notes:
Again, this new releases brings many improvements. The RAM requirement
for wideband has gone down drastically (i.e. more than 2x). A new
resampler module has been added, providing arbitrary sampling rate
conversion -- fast. The echo canceller has also been improved. A bug in
1.2beta1 that made the echo canceller unstable has been fixed. The echo
canceller should now converge faster, be robust and tolerant...

Problems with OS X 10.11.5
I disabled client signing from the client side, via OS X's global nsmb.conf
file: https://discussions.apple.com/message/30282470#30282470
The performance was back to over 600 MB/s, as compared to 60 MB/s with
signing.
It just seems a bit weird to me that Apple, in response to the Badlock bug,
would have changed the OS X client default to something with such drastic
performance implications,

glm binomial logit
Hi All,
I am using "glm" function to build logistic regression. I noticed that glm
function glm function is computing many other statistics which are not
required for our analysis. As our dataset is very big and we have to run
logistic regression on several samples the run time drastically increases
if all those statistics are computed. Is these any way to skip computation
in glm function? I am just a beginner of R and hence I am not able to
modify the glm function.
Can anybody give me an alternative way to fit logistic regression which
computes only the estimates(coefficients) of va...
