Measuring migration downtime
Hi,
I need to get the exact downtime for doing a live migration with ms
precision.
(I am not bothered about whole migration time which is close to 1 minute..
I need to measure
the live migration downtime during which the DomU is out of service.. the
figure quoted in the xen
documentation says it as ~60 ms.. )
I hope someone must...

Downtime notifier
What methods do people use to notify users of upcoming downtime in an
application, and for handling requests nicely while scheduled downtime
is occurring? My Google-fu is not yielding me anything useful-looking.

Recompiling dahdi-linux after kernel update - To minimize downtime
After a kernel update (but before rebooting) Is there a way to recompile Zap/Dahdi against the new kernel?
My objective is to eliminate the additional downtime that occurs while recompiling/installing zap/dahdi after booting into the new kernel.
Please correct me if I'm wrong:
My understanding is that until you reboot (after a kernel update), recompiling zap/dahdi still compiles against the OLD kernel, and that's why zap/dahdi doesn't star...

Live migration: 2500ms downtime
Hi there,
I''ve read the paper on Xen live migration, and it shows some very impressive
figures, like 165ms downtime on a running web server, and 50ms for a quake3
server.
I installed CentOS 5 on 2 servers, each with 2x Xeon E5335 (quad-core), 2x
Intel 80003ES2LAN Gb NICs. Then I installed 2 DomUs, also with CentOS 5.
One NIC is connected to the LAN (on the same switch and VLAN), the other
interconnects the 2...

[LLVMdev] llvm.org DOWNTIME on 2/1 & 2/4
LLVMers,
llvm.org will be down on 2/1 (approximate hours 10pm PST - ?), and 2/4 (8am PST - ?). Email will be sent to the list before and after the downtime. During this time ALL services (svn, web, etc) except for the mailing lists will be down. We are performing a server upgrade that will take some time, so I ask that you have patience. We will try to be as speedy as possible.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Tanya

migration from dovecot to dovecot on different servers without downtime (dovecot replication?)
Hello,
I have an imap server with huge Maildirs and several users running
dovecot 1.0.13, I need to migrate all the imap accounts to a new box
which runs dovecot 1.1.4.
The requisite is that need to do it with no downtime or minimal downtime
possible, and totally transparent for end users.
I have tried IMAP<-->IMAP syncing using a master user in both servers
and imapsync, however due to the huge Maildirs (some users have more
than 10 years of mail) this tends to be quite slow and painful.
Can I tar all t...

Upgrading dovecot 2.2 to 2.3 without downtime when using proxy/director?
...ecting after error
xxx.xxx.xxx.176 is the upgraded host, xxx.xxx.xxx.171 is one of the
other hosts (the applicable hosts are in the range xxx.xxx.xxx.171-176).
Do I have to remove all the hosts from the proxy, upgrade them and then
add them again? Or is there a way to handle the upgrade without a
downtime? After all one of the reasons I use several hosts is that I do
not want to have a downtime.

If you look at .176's error log, do you see an error about "director_consistent_hashing settings differ between directors"? Have you set director_consistent_hashing=yes in the old direct...

Mail and list server downtime
Hello,
there will be a downtime of the mail and list server tomorrow evening from
around 20:00 UTC and a few (hopefully) hours after that. This means that there
will be no mail traffic at that time to and from centos.org domains.
We need to move away mail from the current machine to a new machine, as our

Some observations on live migration & solution solicitation
...s plus the support for ext4 file system as well as the support for
network file system server. The three hosts are connected by one D-link
gigabit switch (DGS-2205).
I find that:
1) If the 3 hosts are booted about the same time, the live migration is
working. (Working in this sense means that the downtime is within 1 minute.)
However, between any of the two hosts, the downtime is asymmetric. In one
direction, the downtime is constantly short, measured by loss of 0-1 packets
via ping command to the migrated guest domU. But, in the other direction,
the downtime is long and unstable, measured by loss...

[ANNOUNCE] netfilter.org systems downtime

Hi!
Due to an unfortunate event [*] the main netfilter.org system had become
unavailable from Aug 19 to Aug 22. =20
The long downtime was caused by the netfilter developer workshop, which
distracted the netfilter developers from doing any system
administration.
This caused all @netfilter.org mail addresses, the mailinglist, CVS,
rsync, ftp and www access to be unavailable.
I have now migrated the www, ftp, rsync, anoncvs and m...

[LLVMdev] More LLVM Mail Server Downtime
...ing lists will be unavailable while we replace bad
memory. During the hardware replacement, the Mailman web interface,
archives, administrative functions, and mailing list mail message
distribution will be unavailable. Messages will be queued and should
catch up after mailman services are restored. Downtime is estimated at
about 30 minutes.
Sorry for the downtime, but at least the mailing list server will have
better memory.

[LLVMdev] Possible llvm.org Downtime

need to power off machines.
While I am hoping that down time will be unnecessary, we may need to
power down llvm.org during the cooling outage. It is also possible that
other services, such as the mailing lists, will be powered down as
well. Please be prepared for downtime.
We are told that the cooling outage will start at 8 am Central time and
last no longer than 4 hours. We have also been told that it may take a
few hours for temperatures to drop once the cooling system is
restarted. If we need to take llvm.org down, I'm hoping that the latest
