CentOS 6 and android connectivity (Nook)
...s firmware, since even when I try mount -o remount -rw, it
is still r/o.
Googling, I see mentions of fsmtp, I think it was, and yum shows some mtp
libs, but I don't see anything that looks like a driver. Any suggestions
(otherwise, I need to zip up the ebooks we want on her Nook, and take them
downstairs to her's and the kid's system, Lose 8, er, Win8.
I really need to solve this today - we're leaving shortly on vacation....
Thanks in advance.

Doorbells & Door Intercoms
...a doorbell chime as the ring tone for this
specific extension filter (so 8888 has it's own ring tone). There is a
time out of 5 to 10 seconds, which represents the time it takes for a
normal doorbell to chime and stop.
Now, the intercom bit... If I want to find out who it is before running
downstairs, I simply pickup my receiver and ask them. Otherwise, I just
leave it and the ringing stops, and the call is terminated.
Also, if I want to find out who is outside, I can just dial a special
number, say 8889, and I connect to the phone outside. Now, can the
phone be set to automatically pickup...

Delayed ringing on some SIP phones
...vered to asterisk via zaphfc, then dropped
into a context as follows:
exten => s,1,SetCIDName(Company 1)
exten => s,2,Dial(SIP/200&SIP/201&etc.,30)
exten => s,3,Voicemail(su200)
Each company is able to see on the LCD on their SIP phones whether the call
is for them or the folks up/downstairs.
What I'd like to do is implement a delayed ringing strategy - i.e. if the
call comes in for Company 1, only their SIP phones will ring for the first
15 seconds, then if there's not been an answer, company 2's SIP phones will
also start ringing.
Is there any way to do this without sto...

I think you're seeing a simple correlation of events that are
indeterminate. Un-mounting a filesystem doesn't cause the drive to spin
down (though "eject" should, IIRC). WD Green drives...

ISOLINUX problem booting with no Hard Disk
I am experiencing a problem booting a machine with ISOLINUX on a machine
that has no hard drive (CD-ROM only). I've tried two different machines, a
Dell Poweredge 2600 and a Dell Poweredge 1300, both exhibit identical
symptoms. When I boot the exact same cd on a system with a hard drive, the
boot is just fine.
I had been using ISOLINUX 1.66, but I just upgraded to 2.02 and I am
having the

...nteresting, about making sure it's stopped. I've asked here
a month or two ago, and got no responses: my manager has me using
pmount/pumount to mount the hard drives I'm putting in the eSATA drive bay
for offline backups. Formerly, I used mount/umount, and when I umounted

as I can feel the gyroscopic action as I pop them out immediately after
hitting the button to turn off the power to the drive.
That box is running CentOS 7.

Samba after upgrade+migration, Win7 workstation trusts lost
...seemed to work - my
netlogon was processed, drives were mapped. I'm pretty sure my wife heard me
yelling with success all the way upstairs. I then went upstairs to her
workstation and tried to log on, only to get the now-familiar message about
the lost trust to the domain. Puzzled, I went back downstairs to my
workstation, logged out, and tried to log back on. No luck whatsoever, same
message about lost trust. Nothing changed on the server between the first
time I apparently successfully logged on, and the second time when I was
unable to log on.
Huh? I am extremely confused. I'll need to s...

Dallas Ruby Brigade meets March 7th
The Dallas Ruby Brigade begins!
Following in the proud tradition of Seattle.rb, NYC.rb and many
others, Dallas has joined the crowd with its own local Ruby Brigade.
We''ll be meeting Tuesday, March 7th in Addison. The plan is as follows:
* Meet between 6:45 and 7:00 in the lobby downstairs. Because of the
way security works, you''ll want to be timely in your arrival. At 7:00
we''ll head upstairs at 7 to go to the Valtech offices where we''ll
hold the meeting.
* From 7 to 8, we''ll do presentation-oriented stuff. I (Adam Keys)
will be doing a sh...

loaded by Inkscape, nor converted to EPS using Image Magick (suggesting
failure somewhere?). I'm not criticizing the packages here, just making
an observation. I can either create smaller bathymetry and coastline
files, or use the big linux beast downstairs.

SAMBA digest 2289
I also set up samba 2.0.5a (binaries from Skunkware) on a SCO 5.0.5
server. I have a conf file, but it's on my laptop, and that's downstairs,
and I'm about to get ready to leave, so I'll dig it up later. :) From
what I remember though, all I changed was:
- the workgroup name,
- turned off browse master
- turned off the printing system
- set the guest user to 'nouser'
- used sharelevel security vs userlevel
- turned...

A different Win98 password problem
...box.
The win98 machine dual boots linux, and I can get smbclient connections to
the linuxbox then. I have to use the smbpasswd password, not the regular
one, suggesting that encrypted passwords are working ok on the linuxbox.
I can even mount the linuxbox as a network drive from the NT cluster
downstairs.
The win98 username matches that on the linuxbox.
When I try mapping network drives on the win98 machine as
\\linuxbox\username and enter the password (regular or encrypted)
I get "Microsoft Networking: The password is incorrect. Try again."
with
use net \\linuxbox\tmp x:
I get &q...
