CentOS 6: Yum downloadonly changes local source repositories
Hi All,
I'm trying to use yum with the downloadonly option to collect a set of
packages including dependencies. I noticed that even on CentOS 6 the
downloadonly option is currently a default feature of the core of yum
itself, which is nice.
However something strange occurs when one of the repositories to
download from is a local repository, like:...

anymore, it still does not copy/download the package into the desired
"downloaddir".
I will try to report that upstream.

Danny

Yumdownloader on centos 4 does not add the functionality of the
yum --downloadonly feature in Centos 5 from the yum-downloadonly-1.1.10-9.el5
I was replying to Peter Kjellstrom
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2008-November/068300.html
as the original thread was about yum --downloadonly not present
in centos 4.

yum update download only?
Googling for this feature, I saw reports from the yum developer that it
wasn't yet implemented. This was in mailing list posts from a year or more
ago. Did it ever make it into the yum code?
I want to start downloading the updates for a server going from 5.0 to 5.1
and then do the actual installation once I'm on site. I don't want to have
to wait around while there for the

Yum equivalent of rpm -i --test
How does one do this? Reading through the man pages for yum it doesn't look like its possible? I could use rpm, but I was hoping to pull down deps through yum automagically.
Thanks!

A check of what's currently on the system reveals udev-095-14.19.el5

Yum errors
Hi,
I have a machine that recently had some file system corruption. fsck was able
repair the file system but I am getting the following error when I try to

5.0 -> 5.1
Hi folks,
I have a production server that's currently running 5.0 with all
updates. What's the easiest, or perhaps best way to upgrade it to 5.1,
with minimal down time? The downtime is critical, so I need to have it
be a short as possible. I can live with an hour or two, but larger is
going to be a pain.
Suggestions?

Wouldn't it be helpful if the

them for installation on anothe PC).

yum vs up2date
Which is better? Why?
I know yum is the official update mechanism here and in Fedora Core, but
that doesn't make yum better than up2date any more than Windows NT was
better than OS/2.
Let's try to keep the discussion objective:-)
I'm asking, hoping for some insights into why RH might (apparently) be
moving to yum in preference to up2date (yum is now used within Anaconda).
