Question About Dovadm syntax
Hello All,
I just have a quick question about doveadm commands.
1. Is there a command that we can use to count emails for a particular end
user?
2. If an end user needed to copy/move emails from one account to another,
is there a command?
Also, I've searched Google results, numerous Ubuntu, CentOS, Fedora forums,
Doveadm forums, and read the DoveCot/DoveADM man pages numerous times and

mail-migration with dovadm sync/backup and mail_attachment_dir
I need to run a mail-migration from a Dovecot with mail_attachment_dir /
single instance storage enabled.
As mailboxes and mail_attachment_dir are rsynced I would normally run a
doveadm backup -u <user> -R -d dbox:<path to rsynced mailbox>/dbox
How can I tell it the mail_attachment_dir the rsynced source / (reverse)
destination uses?
Or do I have to start a Dovecot process and use

imap-postlogin and doveadm
We are configuring location= running a bash-script during imap-postlogin
setting $MAIL in $USERDB_KEYS, as described in wiki/PostLoginScripting.txt
This works fine.
However, running a command like 'dovadm index [-u user] folder'
only works for users with settings that match the default in mail_location=
Would it be possible to make the location available for doveadm
in a similar way, either with command line arguments or in the
enviroment?

dsync backup touch source index files.
Hi everyone,
Can someone explain me why dsync need read-write access to source box when pulling data (dsync -R backup)?
I am working on migration from Dovecot 1.x with maildir to latest
Dovecot 2.2.15 with mdbox and found that there is no way to do this
from ro filesystem (got "failed: Read-only file system" on access
to /dovecot.index.log).
I am wondering is it bug or feature?

Unless someone out there advises me against doing this, I'm going to try it.
I've also seen `dovadm import` as a possible suggestion, though if a simple copy works I don't
see why anyone would use `dovadm import`.

With version 1.x I had to increase login_max_processes_count = ...
With 2.x I'm not sure which parameters I have to set.
So Thunderbird 3.x has a default value of 5 connections to cache.
"dovadm who" shows quite often 5 connections:

So dovecot has to be configured for 5000 connections/imap-login's?
Within 10-master.conf these defaults are shown

#default_client_limit = 1000
Is it right process_limit...

How to Restore emails
I have a user who accidentially deleted a large number of emails prior to a certain date. He
wants them back. I do have a tarfile backup of these messages. Is there a good way to restore
them? Can I simply restore them to the appropriate Maildir directory and dovecot will just
"figure it out"?
Thanks, --Mark

dsync backup touch source index files.
I don't know the answer to your question, but in case you don't get a suitable answer from someone better qualified than me, you might try having dovadm pull the data my making an imap connection to the older server like:
doveadm -o imapc_features=fetch-headers -o mail_prefetch_count=20 -o imapc_port=993 -o imapc_ssl=imaps -o imapc_ssl_verify=no -o mail_fsync=never -o imapc_host=mail.example.com -o imapc_user=mailuser at exmple.com -o imapc_passwo...

Doveadm?
I have a question?
Is it possible that with doveadm delete all but the last x-number of
messages in a folder. For example to retain the last 200 messages in the
folder.
If it is possible, how do you do it?
Something like "doveadm expunge -u jane.doe at example.org mailbox xxx"
Thank you!

mdbox + gzip and rsync
Hi,
After reading the following paragraph from the dovecot doc, I've been
wondering how it would affect rsync (when combined with gzip):
"Expunging a message only decreases the message's refcount. The space is
later freed in "purge" step. This is typically done in a nightly cronjob
when there's less disk I/O activity. The purging first finds all files that

Applying Dovecot for a large / deep folder-hierarchy archive.
Hi all,
The guidance provided so far has been really helpful, and has helped a
great deal to bringing down wasted energy on finding and executing a
viable path. I am now at the final due action to complete our Dovecot
application to our use-case, but am stuck on an issue that I cannot
find any easily accessible documentation on.
Generally this is what has been done:

Unexpected accounts showing up in replication status (doveadm replicator status '*')
I have a replication set up with two dovecot 2.3.4 servers.
Messages appear to be replicating fine between them, however there is an
oddity when I run doveadm replicator status '*' and I'm worried work is
being carried out needlessly.
Both machines have identical configs and have a mysql backend for
username/passwords.? Both machines point to the same mysql server and
