cluster analysis with pairwise data
Hello, I want to do a cluster analysis with my data. The problem is, that the variables dont't consist of single value but the entries are pairs of values. That lokks like this: Variable 1: Variable2: Variable3: . . . (1,2) (1,5) (4,2) (7,8) (3,88) (6,5) (4,7) (12,4) (4,4) . . . ....

paired samples, matching rows, merge()
Hi everyone! I'm matching two samples to create one sample that have pairs of observations equal for the k1 variable. Merge() doesn't work because I dont't want to recycle the values. x <- data.frame(k1=c(1,1,2,3,3,5), k2=c(20,21,22,23,24,25)) x y <- data.frame(k1=c(1,1,2,2,3,4,5,5), k2=c(10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17)) y merge(x,y,by="k1") k1 k2.x k2.y 1 1 20 10 2 1 20 11 3 1 21 10 4 1 21 11 5 2 22...

Slow imap connection to local dovecot server
...39;m only using plain imap on port 143 with plain text password authentification. But very often the login from thunderbird to the dovecot server takes a very long time, even if thunderbird and dovecot are running on the same machine. It can take more than a minute until I can read a message. I dont't have this problem with the remote imap servers of my mail providers. Does anybody know, why this happens or how I could debug this issue?

Big Traffic anyway?

Heh, I changed subject, and this you'll receive this mail. I don't want to create thousands filters in my mail client - one for each topic I dont't want to read. Subject filters is very bad idea too. Isn't it simpler not to receive mails instead of deleting? Regards, Alexander Chemeris.

How can I make the Norwegian chars ø:Ø valid???
...g me. I've set up samba alright, and it working perfect except for one little detail that I noticed the other day. I tried to copy a filname with the nowegian char ?, over to a samba share, then it turned into an o. I then checked out the other norwegian chars, and they're working ok. So I dont't understand when I've set these lines in the smb.conf character set = ISO8859-1 client code = 850 // norwegian valid chars = ?:? ?:? ?:? ?:? ?:? why it's only the ?:? which isn't accepted. And yes I've got my linux kernel set to handle these chars, cos I've made some dir...

Wrong permissions
Hi, I have a problem with Samba file permissions. It doesn't concerns every user, but most. When a user creates a file it gets the wrong permissions. It gets username:users and not as expected username:groupname. So some useres can't write on a file, if someone else has saved it. I dont't know why it works on some users and not on all. A part of the users get username:groupname and the smb.conf part gets respected. Here is the part from the smb.conf inherit acls = Yes writeable = yes valid users = @group force group = group path = /h...
