Ubuntu 13.10 - not able to upgrade R

I've done this a few times. At this point there are no more updates and the R error is isolated.
Is there a solution to this or should i just re-install R.

Patchy 'front-end' package installation problems using -R- 2.15.1

Now, after rifling the list archives, I found that the following post

pointed to a solution from the terminal, which worked:
