[PATCH] Make "xm mem-set" be lower bound on domX-min-mem
This patch causes "xm mem-set" to be lower bound on domX-min-mem option
in xend-config. Another configuration option called domU-min-mem has
been introduced, which works similarly to dom0-min-mem. This is prevents
users from freezing the system when doing "xm mem-set" on very low
values like 32M.

Network Issues/Questions
...- Ubuntu 7.10 for dom0 and Debian 4.0 for all domU
- 4 physical NIC (DHCP from my ISP, internal LAN, DMZ & WLAN)
- 1 Dom as firewall/router
- 1 domU with internal services (DHCP-, LDAP-, SAMBA-, ... Server)
- 1 domU in DMZ as Webserver
My plan:
- xenbr0 where eth0 is in it and all my internal domX
- xenbr1 where eth1 is in it and all my DMZ domX
- xenbr2 where eth2 is in it (WLAN Access Point attached)
- xenbr3 where eth0, eth1, eth2 and eth3 for the firewall
What I have so far:
- Xen installed and dom0 running
- xenbr0, xenbr1, xenbr2 and xenbr3 created via custom script:

Advice on HIGHMEM
Given that dom0 is itself doesn''t managed the memory directly that you
only need to compile HIGHMEM4G into the dom0 or domU kernels if you
intend to use more than 1G in one domX instances.
ie. Even if you have more than 1Gb of total physical memory, if none of
the domX use more than 1Gb of memory, there is no need to compile in
HIGHMEM4G.
Or, does dom0 need to be compiled with this in order for the Xen
hypervisor to manage this memory level effectively.

How to Networking Bridge?
...;'type=ioemu'']
I also tryied:
vif = [''type=ioemu, bridge=xenbr0'']
Could never ping a external from DomU!!
What I know:
- the ethX device is a logical device and the physical device is
renamed to pethX;
- the vifX.Y devices are linked with ethY from DomX (ie.: vif1.0 <->
Dom1 eth0);
- there is also a vethX ...
What configuration I have to do on Dom0?
What configuration I have to do on DomU?
When rebooting I have always need to do ''ifconfig ethX up'' !!!
thanx

systemtap probe points for Xen hypervisor
...and running as guest)? Since the entry
to hypervisor is controlled, I supposed it will need a patch before
systemtap can be used to probe the Xen hypervisor, right? Or is it
not a logical thing to do?
My target of interest will be to trace/analyze the behavior of the
Xen hypervisor, and the domX guest as well.
Thank you for your answer.

Memory bound applications
...s I know, if all machines are running the whole system would
be very busy swapping, but I''m fairly sure this case will be happen very
seldom. But this seems to be not possible with Xen. It allows only to
distribute the physical memory about the machines and ensures, that the sum
of the domX-memory must not be larger than the available physical memory. In
my case I can only create 3 doms at the same time.
Is there something I''m missing? Any solution?

Question about assigning NICS
...of implementing a Dom0 setup with several DomU''s, one of
which will be a firewall.
I have 3 NICs in the host machine, and wish to assign them to the
Firewall "guest" (though it''ll need to use a privileged kernel).
I plan on using a "dummy" interface on each DomX for management (and
this will be the only way Dom0 can be accessed -- remotely, anyway;
there will always be direct console access)
My question:
My ISP assigned my IP via DHCP. If I assign the NIC the Internet is
plugged into to the firewall "guest", will the IP my ISP asigns show up

Dummy ethernet device setup
Hello you all out there
Does anybody know the definite guide to create a dummy ethernet device?
So, what I want to have is an ethernet device, without a physical link, or
so called a dummy device. My goal is to have apache with mod_proxy and
balancer running on peth0 in dom0. Apache is spreading my connection to
the backend domU''s, where the webservices are running. The connection

Two Samba 4 AD DC forest trust
Hello,
My post is about having two Samba 4 AD DC at two different geographical
places and access resources bidirectionnaly through a VPN as summarized in
the schema below.

- AD DC: Samba 4.1.4
- LAN_1 IPs: 192.168.1.0/24
- Machines DNS names: <hostname>.company.lan

Kernel panic while compiling kernel
I know you Xen developers are beginning to hate me ;) but...
While trying to compile 2.4.24 under DOM0, quickly after issuing ''make dep'' I
got:
Kernel panic: Failed mmu update: c015bf80, 4
I suspect this address probably isn''t to helpful but this is all I have. I am
currently booted in 2.4.21-SuSE and compiling the 2.4.24 regarding another

Is this level of interrupts reasonable?
This currently a UP Xen 2.8 machine with 5 domX instances running
without a large amount of load.

pfSense HVM
Hi Everyone,
Does anybody have any experience using pfSense on Xen? I would most
probably have to use HVM...
My idea would be to use PCI-Passthrough to the pfsense DomU, and only
make the Dom0 accessable via the pfsense firewall
Thanks
Jonathan
