...time, effort and testing to get the configuration you want. Personally I don't mix user types since it takes out an element of complexity. For your case you might find it useful to look into auth_default_realm that can specify a domain name when one is not supplied. https://wiki2.dovecot.org/DomainLost Other things that might be useful: there is a method for returning a "user" field from the userdb query or passdb query which will change the username. Or there is another setting that can overriding values of fields returned by the userdb. https://wiki.dovecot.org/UserDatabase Hope it...

%d empty string
I am trying to upgrade from dovecot 1.x to Dovecot 2.0.13 on Fedora. My problem is the mail_location setting seems to ignore the %d variable. My my location is as follows: mail_location = maildir:/var/spool/virtual_mail/%d/%u/Maildir However, when trying to log in the maillog says it can't find /var/spool/virtual_mail//*myusername*/Maildir/cur. As you can see it just uses an empty string

Help implementing username_format in auth PAM driver
...ot support the username_format option as does the password file driver. This didn't seem too hard to implement so I through together a patch. As you can see in the attached patch I only modify the username sent to PAM. Despit doing this I run into the domain lost issue(http://wiki2.dovecot.org/DomainLost). This prevents me from using the domain name in my mail_location config string. What I don't understand is why does changing the username string sent to PAM for authentication trigger this issue? Shouldn't dovecot continue to use the client supplied username as I am *not* changing it anywh...

Lost %d variable
I'm trying to set up sieve with dovecot, and for some reason, sieve is not getting the %d variable that is part of the path to where its script should be. Here's the version: ops:/var/log/mail# dovecot --version 1.2.13 And, here's the configuration (I've left it all for reference, but moved the lda & plugins portions together and marked them out):

domain variable still empty
Hello all, First, thanks for your help with my previous NFS problem. I am trying to mount a mail server, with debian and dovecot 1.2. Until now, I have both shared and public folders working, on a NFS share. indexes are stored locally, as well as per user flags. Sive is also working :-) Now, I'd like to restrict sharing by domain, and for this, to use the "%d" variable

%d/%n doesn't work... why?
Hello all, I've been trying to setup my postfix and dovecot to AUTH with mysql, and I'm almost there! BUT, for some reason, dovecot won't create the folders in their proper location. For some reason, instead of going into /var/vmail/pplsnet.com/{username}location, where the postfix put all the emails, dovecot creates a whole new set of folders in /var/vmail/{username} I have
