No domaingroups with getent group
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, after I joined an new machine into my domain, "getent group" is not showing any domaingroup. The domainusers are listet with "getent passwd" as expected. In nsswitch.conf winbind is used with "passwd" and "group". Wbinfo -g shows all groups. "net rpc testjoin" gives the right result. I can get

Hello Stefan, I learned the hard way about .local. I understand going forward. I do have an issue with the member server. Following along with the wiki I get stuck at 'Testing the Winbind user/group mapping'. Wbinfo works as expected but not #*id DomainUser* #*getent passwd* #*getent group* #*chown DomainUser:DomainGroup file* #*chgrp DomainGroup file* etc. I receive

Rowland, I set a user with a uid and domain users group with a gid but I'm still unable to view them using 'id'. I do notice a few strange observations. If I go to another user to attempt to assign a uid. I get the default value of 10000. I would expect 2001 given I set the first user with uid 2000. Groups however appear to increment. Hi Rowland, I did. Unfortunately something is still amiss. I do receive a response from 'getent group domain users'(users:x:100). HELP : Domain Administrator
Hi all, I need help. I read the following documentation on the Samba website : 4.3.1. How do I configure an account as a domain administrator? This has changed in the latest version of the HEAD branch. The "domain admin users" and "domain admin group" parameters have gone away. See the smb.conf man page for information on * domain group map * domain user map * local group

help, please, troubleshooting winbind testing during setup of Samba 4 AD member server
Hello, all! Well, third time is *not* the charm for me. (I've been through the process 3 times with 3 different DCs). I am trying to set up a member server, using Samba 4.1.14, and washing out when getting to the winbind testing. I've tried ignoring the failure and pressing on, but that didn't get anywhere. In this instance, I have a freshly-installed, configured and functioning

Rowland, I decided to start over with a fresh install and attempted again. Only change I made was to start my mappings at 10000. I gave 'Domain Users' group gid 10000 and 'tuser' has uid 10001. Still didn't work btw. dn: CN=Test User,CN=Users,DC=domain,DC=local objectClass: top objectClass: person objectClass: organizationalPerson objectClass: user cn: Test User sn:

No predefined Groups
...ing ! I have added the 'Domain Admins' & 'Domain Guests' manualy with the 'net groupmap add ...', but this was not the hit. On a second machine with the identical smb.conf-File but Samba version '3.0.20b-3.3-SUSE' all is fine ('net groupmap list' shows 3 Domaingroups and 9 Localgroups). What can be the reason and how i can fix that ? Thanks Sven

ad module, unix/user domain/group oddity, can't use winbind trusted domains only
I've tried everything I can think of. I kept thinking it must be something I needed to configure when I changed over from padl xad to the samba ad builtin module. Everything had been working for the last 2 years. AD. samba, and unix passwords are synchronized. Samba version 3.0.24pre1-SVN-build-18449 smb.conf winbind nss info = sfu idmap backend = ad Without any users defined in

Hi Rowland, I forgot to tell you the results were from my Domain Controller and not the member server. Member server returned something to the effect of 'user not found'. I am only starting the 3 services(smbd, nmbd and windbindd) listed in the wiki. Should I be starting Samba with command line switches to start as a member server? Is that even possible? Thanks for you
