Disabling NETBIOS over TCP/IP
...configure XP clients to communicate with Samba3 PDC without
NETBIOS. I've disabled NETBIOS over TCP/IP on XP clients and on Samba3
server. I also created neccessary DNS records as described in
Samba-HOWTO-Collection but yet without success.
I've created DNS SRV entry _ldap._tcp.pdc._msdcs.domainame.com as described
in Samba-HOWTO but this is what happends:
1. XP client sends DNS query for entry _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domainame.com
and
not for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.domainame.com (note the difference .dc
instead
of .pdc) and fails because of missing DNS entry
2. I added SRV entry fo...

auth_username_chars question
...after the first non-space char after
the '=' sign? I.e. any spaces after the first non-space char would be
taken as valid character, and '\' would also be a literal character?
(not that'd I'd be using windows's clients or anything that would, on
occasion, pass "DOMAINAME\user" as the calling user trying to log into
a 'user' account....or anything....*ahem*...)
Overrode it w/some hard-coded hacks, but would like dovecot to me more
robust and handle weird input and do the right thing with it (I know that's

limiting netlogon scripts to a subnet?-will this work?
Would this work? The problem is, I do not have
roaming profiles in use(As it is not practical for us,
as users tend to use the same computers). I want only
users with IP from 192.168.1.x to load the databases.
The loaddatabases.cmd file in question would contain

Samba domain join issues
Hi All,
I am having an issue with Samba joining an active directory domain.
When I run 'net ads join -S mydomaincontrollerFQDN -U adminuser command I
get this error:
Failed to join domain: failed to lookup DC info for domain 'MYDOMAIN.COM'
over rpc: Logon failure
The credentials we entered are for sure correct but if we see our domain
controller it count it
