configure dual samba 3.0.8 instances-one fedora box
Greetings, I've a need to run 2 instances on one box. I've spent the better part of 2 days looking for docs and howto's and reading the FM. However, I think I'm making too much out of it, thinking that there is more to it than there really is. the first instance is to serve the users, the second instance is for the backup system. I'm running fedora core 2 with samba

Problems with a trust relation between samba and samba different subnet
...t and no good result is time to ask. My friends I want to make to domains running samba+ldap to share resources, I want to create a trust relation in two directions. Both domains have wins enable but are on different subnet. Domain Name: DOM1 Netbios Name = DOM1PDC 192.168.50.0/24 Domain Name: DOM2 Netbios Name = DOM2PDC 192.168.40.0/24 Both networks are separate, each one with his own switch, a FW is what help me they can communicate. OS: Centos 5.5 Samba 3.3.x. First, I follow the instructions from the bible of samba and say that I need to create the Interdomain account on each networ...

Finding users in trusting/trusted domains
We're currently migrating from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. Exchange 5.5 is in a Samba3 domain (DOM1), and Exchange 2003 is in a 2000 mixed-mode domain (DOM2), and trusts are active in both directions. Part of the process requires that we grant users in the DOM2 domain admin rights to the LDAP server on the Exchange server in DOM1. When we try, we're able to browse the DOM2 userlist and select the users, but when we hit 'apply' the usernam...

Samba domain member server does not see list of users from PDC
Hi, I have some problems with the following setup: DOM1 (PDC) -> DOM2 (PDC) <->DOM2(Member server) The users and groups from DOM1 (MS WinNT4 domain) are nicely visible on Samba PDC (DOM2) with established trust, but domain member server in DOM2 domain does not show any users from the DOM1 domain (only users from DOM2 are visible), BUT!! users from DOM1 can log...

Domain trusts (Again)
I hope someone can answer this since my other emails have gone unanswered. I am using Samba 3.0.7 on both machines and am using LDAP. I believe that the trusts are working but I am still having a slight problem. I guess we'll use DOM1 and DOM2 for the domain names. DOM2 is trusting DOM1. If a DOM1 user tries to locally login to a DOM1 computer, it gives a "System could not log you on." error. I noticed in the logs that it is trying to create a user with the same name but it is getting this error: "Error: modificatio...

We have the setup of 2 AD Domains running in native 2003 (I don't know the specific trust setup as I am not the Admin for the windows side) Dom1 Dom2 I have the following working: Log in to solaris, linux etc using dom1\username or dom2\username Getent passwd shows both dom1\usernames and dom2\usernames Getent group shows both dom1\groups and dom2\groups However in dom2\gorup I have both dom1\user AND dom2\user The getent group wil...

Situation: DOM0 |->Bridge 1 - MTU 1500 | |-> PHY - eth0 | |-> VIF - Dom1 | \-> VIF - Dom2 (router) | \->Bridge 2 - MTU 1500 |-> PHY - eth1 \-> VIF - Dom2 (router) Dom 1 <-> VIF <--(bridge 1)--> VIF <-> dom2 <-> VIF <--(bridge 2)--> Practical example: Dom1 generate 2 packet to be routed to bridge 2 from bridge 1. Using samba on two domains
Hello all, We've been using samba version 3.0.4 on RH9 with success for quite a while now for shares on our domain (DOM1). Since this machine will have to be available in the near future in another domain (DOM2) as a webserver, and limited fileserver, another network interface has been added for the NIC. When browsing the shares from a WIN98SE computer in DOM2, we are able to see the computer, but when wanting to list the shares, we're prompted for a password. When entering the correct password, we...

Security Issue??
I have noticed the following behavior when testing out Samba 3.0.1 on RH9 with ldap authentication. Linux Samba V3.0.1 set up as PDC for domain DOM1 has a user test1. Two NT4 domains DOM2 and DOM3 also have a user called test1 with the same password as the user in DOM1 (all three users have the same username and password). All servers are on the same local subnet. When user1 does a logon to the Samba DOM1 (from an XP machine with a machine account in DOM1) he does not have acces...

Interdomain trust with different WINS servers
...stablish a relation between two different Samba domains. Each domain has two PDCs, all they are WINS servers, and the two domains are in different subnets. They are configured to use LDAP as the user/group/machine database. First, I will create the relation, being DOM1.CORP the trusted domain, and DOM2.CORP the trusting domain, so in a server of DOM1.CORP, I create a user this way: DOM1-S1$ /usr/bin/perl -w /opt/ldap/smbldap-tools/bin/smbldap-useradd -W -t 5 'DOM1.CORP$' DOM1-S1$ smbpasswd -i DOM1.CORP$ The two commands are OK, and the domain account is created in LDAP, in ou=Computers....
