ctl-D, cancel, ctl-D yields seg fault (PR#2773)

pass by reference -- how to do it

let me save you the trouble. You are so very right! Indeed I
don't want to have pass by reference variables. OTOH I don't
want R to come to a dead halt at an inconvenient time either.

Spurious data in file retrieved from Windows share via Samba
....
A co-worker on the Windows side reports that there are
no spurious data in the file when he looks at it.
I have no power to change anything on the Windows side and
probably no ability to ask for logs or other debugging info.
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this problem.

possibility of R/Maxima linking
...ble with Clisp, and maybe with GCL as well.
Whether or not this scheme works depends pretty strongly
on how much effort is needed to munge R objects into Lisp.
Maybe someone has some comments about that.
There is more that can be said but I'll let this be enough for now.
