Historical question
...a talk with somebody about CELP. He said, there is this federal standard 1016 (4.8kbps) with a reference implementation of the Department of Defense (only on Sun, unfortunately, if I got this right). This one is noticed in the manual already. He also said, since there is this implementation of the DoD, nobody would voluntarily re-implement CELP. If I read the manual, I guess you just took the idea names CELP, did some conceptual work (resulting in NB, WB und UWB mode as well as all these bitrates Speex supports, as well as stuff like frame-length and number of subframes) and then actually made...

Firefox fails to authenticate .mil sites with New DoD CAC
Can anyone help with getting the new DoD CACs (Smart Card) to work in CentOS 6.6? I don't use it for console logins, only for email and .mil web sites. I recently had to get a new DoD CAC (Smart Card) when one of the buildings I work in upgraded their security system. My old CAC was working fine prior to this for signing and encrypti...

ncdf with opendap/dods support
Aloha, I just made some quick hacks on the configure script with the 'ncdf' package to make it link with the opendap/dods libraries (opendap.org) rather than the netcdf api library. Basically, this allows a user to interact in R with a remotely served dataset as if it were a netcdf file on the local filesystem (read-only). Functionality with local files should continue to work as well. This opendap feature sho...

Coalesce function in BBmisc, emoa, and microbenchmark packages
...so uncovered a coalesce function in the BBmisc, emoa, and microbenchmark packages. Trouble is I can't seem to get it to work in any of these packages. Or perhaps I misunderstand what it's intended to do. The documentation is generally pretty scant. Working with two columns: Date of Death (DOD) and Last Known Date Alive (LKDA). One or the other column is populated for each of the patients in my dataframe and the other column is blank. When I run code like "with(Demographics, coalesce(DOD, LKDA))", the function generates a value whenever DOD is not missing and generates NA othe...

DADMS is a Navy system, but yes Centos is approved for use by DISA. You would STIG it just like RHEL. -Jason -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -...

opendap/dods data retrieval
Hello, I was wondering if there has been any progress in developing a package for accessing opendap/dods data using R. I see from the list archive that there was some initial work done on this. Thanks, Paul Brewin Paul E Brewin (PhD) Center for Research in Biological Systems University of California San Diego 9500 Gilman Drive MC 0505 La Jolla CA, 92093-0505 USA Ph: 858-822-0871 Fax: 858-822...

Gotcha, I also work with DoD for Navy systems and was surprised by that. So you mean if we don't want to pay RHEL licensing fees, we can use Centos? Since we are paying about $100 per RHEL license.
