Replacing a file turns off group and world read permissions
...this share by
certain methods on an Ubuntu client, the permissions get set to 733
(-rwx-wx-wx), so the file is then unreadable (and undelete-able) by a
guest. The problematical methods are dragging a repeat of the same file
into Nautilus file browser, or performing a repeat save as from Evince
DocViewer, (which means it's a particular nuisance with PDF files), but
not saving from other apps as far as I can see. There's no problem with
Windows clients.
The samba log shows that in these cases the file is opened with read=No
write=Yes, then opened again with read=Yes write=Yes, then clo...

howto monitor disks on a serveraid-8k?
Hi,
I'd like to monitor the disks connected to a ServeRaid-8k controller in
a server running Centos 7 such that I can know when one fails.
What's the best way to do that?

Thanks, that's a good link!
It seems there used to be a program called ipssend, but apparently there
are only questionable 32bit versions.
The only thing I really need is to know when a disk fails ...
Does someone remember if the BMC of an IBM x3650 can tell you that?...

Basically saying that for a 64 bit Clearcase/Samba server, the max
mnode values should be set to 800 and not the default 1800.
Anyone with experience with this? We have not seen the particular

I was wondering if it could be the same issue that we saw with DB2 which behaves the exact same way each time a user logs
in...they were using the wrong function to determine the groups associated to one user

As we got over a thousand AIX machines running my build of openssh in a very large environment, this is causing a real overall

tzdata
I read a few days back on the list where the tzdata rpm was to take care of
the new DST rules. I run CentOS 3 servers, and did a 'yum update tzdata' ,
but received a 2006a update of the rpm.
Is this proper? It sure didn't fix anything.
Thanks

Excel 'Document not saved' Error when using SMB2 Protocol
Hi Samba Users,
I'm in the process of building a Samba4 CTDB /GPFS Cluster joined as a
member server to AD that also supports ACL's .
It has taken some time but almost everything is working now :) . My one
outstanding issue is editing files using Excel 2007 on Windows 7 results in
a 'Document not saved' error. I believe this is an issue with the SMB2
protocol as I can edit the same

[LLVMdev] Optimization on Atomics (and the OpenMP memory model)
Hi everyone,
The OpenMP standards committee has begun work to formalize their memory model, and define its relationship to the C/C++ memory models. A questionnaire has been put together (pasted below), and I'd like everyone's help in composing detailed answers to inform their decision-making process. While our OpenMP support is still in active development, many of these questions apply

Even the PXELinux docs suggest encapsulating vendor necessary options for some ROMS. Maybe I'll put all those same options into my DHCP configuration below without having them encapsulated in hex.
Currently here is my DHCP configuration minus the IP addresses of course....

Gene,
As it happened I started working on this again just as you mailed me.
It appears that PXE-E99 may also be related to MTFTP part of the PXE spec. IBM also says it has something to do with jumbo frames. I tried setting PXE.mtcp-ip to 0.0.0.0 to disable it but still no joy.
The bootfile size shows up as zero because that relates to "option boot-size" in dhcp and doesn't seem to
