Dynamic DNS updates (Samba 4.8.2 & Bind 9.10)
Hi all - I've been fighting Dynamic DNS updates for _weeks_ now. Quite
possibly I am missing some key piece of information, and if so, please let
me know! I have been going through every iota of information trying to
figure this out on my own, but I finally must ask.
I am unable to get any machines to _naturally_ register. I can force
register with samba-tool and I can create new records with

Dynamic DNS updates not working
Hi guys,
I'm having a struggle with Dynamic DNS updates. When i join a Windows
machine to the domain the host name get registered. When I change the IP
the A-record gets deleted and nothing more happens. I'm using the internal
dns with Samba 4.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Can't access DNS from RSAT
Hello all,
My Server is CentOS 7 and I'm running Samba 4.10.4 compiled from scratch.
When I try to open DNS in RSAT I receive this message: Access was denied.
Would you like to add it anyway?
In my log.samba file I see this message:

../../lib/ldb-samba/ldb_wrap.c:332(ldb_wrap_connect)

Access denied editing DNS using RSAT
Hello,
I'm trying to replace an old Windows Server 2003 with Samba 4 and I've got
a problem trying to add some DNS entries. When I open the RSAT DNS manager
I got an Access Denied error and I can't edit the zones.
My config file is the generated by samba-tool and I'm using Samba 4.7.0rc5
compiled on a Debian 8 amd64:

DNS Administration Strangeness
I'm running Samba 4.0.9 as a domain controller in a Windows 2008 R2 functional level single domain forest with a Windows 2012 domain controller. I am using Bind 9.9.3-P2 as the DNS backend with dlz_bind9_9.so driver.
When I add my Samba DC to the DNS Manager snap-in, my main domain.com zone has a red X and I cannot expand it. The _msdcs.domain.com zone seems to be ok. Also, one of my reverse

Samba4/Windows DNS replication and administration issue
Hi all,
I am having trouble with DNS replication between a Linux/Samba 4.0.9 box and Windows Server 2012 domain controller, as well as administering the Linux DNS from the Windows DNS Manager snap-in.
First a little background. I am trying to integrate a Samba 4.0.9 server as a domain controller in an existing Windows Active Directory domain. The domain and forest are at Windows 2008R2

Fwd: Two DNS issues with samba
Hi,
- I have changed my /etc/resolv.conf for all my three DCs.
### DC 01-03
nameserver 10.10.10.11
nameserver 10.10.10.12
nameserver 10.10.10.13
search intern.preiss.network
- In the next step I changed my /etc/hosts for each DC
### DC1
127.0.0.1 localhost
10.10.10.11 01-dc01.intern.preiss.network 01-dc01
### DC2
127.0.0.1 localhost

Invalid zone operation IsSigned
I have two 4.18.9 domain controllers running on my domain, both self compiled on arm64 vanilla Debian 12. - Been running? with version 4.18 for nearly 11 months without issue.
I've added a self compiled 4.20.1 domain controller also running on arm64 Debian 12.
All the the domain controllers are using? BIND9_DLZ for DNS.
All seems to be running fine. samba-tool drs showrepl and samba-tool

Environments and tiers
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to deal with multiple
environments/tiers?
For instance, we have several environments ( production, dev, qa,
etc.. ) and within each environment, different tiers ( web, data, app,
etc ). Each tier is a different IP network segment, so all the hosts
in each tier have different configurations for certain things like
resolv.conf, ntp.conf and so on.

pdc emulator dns record missing after transferring role
Hi Alex
I've had the same DNS manager issue. I've opened a bug
(https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14310) and reported on the
mailing list (https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2020-March/228772.html)
No fix yet.

Fwd: Two DNS issues with samba
Thanks for the good explanation. The client is my Windows 10 computer.
I should perhaps mention that I use the RSAT tools to manage DNS.
What I don't understand is why the DC 01 doesn't have these problems. Is it
maybe because it has all FSMO roles and is the PDC?

Can't access DNS from RSAT
I found this page https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12807 which
seemed to have someone experiencing the same issue I am.
I tried adding "allow dcerpc auth level connect:dnsserver = yes" to my
smb.conf, rebooted the server, but still I get the an access denied message
in windows.
However, what is logged in the log.samba files has changed since adding
this option to my smb.conf.
