"User's $HOME/.dmrc file is being ignored" after compilation
Each time I compile Wine and restart Ubuntu (8.04), there's an error just after I log in:
"User's $HOME/.dmrc file is being ignored. This prevents the default session and language from being saved. File should be owned by user and have 644 permissions. User's $HOME directory must be owned by user and not writable by other users."
These commands fix this, but when I recompile Wine, the bug's b...

Strange error on login: $HOME/.dmrc?
Hi,
Since this morning, when I login, GDM gives me an error message on login
(it's in french, so I try to translate roughly):
$HOME/.dmrc has been ignored, but it is responsible for saving sessions.
It should not be writable for other users, and permissions should be 644.
Now I had a look at this ~/.dmrc, and permissions were rw-------. So I
did a chmod 644 on it (rw-r--r--) and logged back out... but the problem
still persists....

GUI login issues over NFS
...her, and have tested command line logins over SSH
using NIS credentials and that all seems to work quite well. However,
whenever a CentOS (or even Fedora for that matter) desktop user tries to
log in (either Gnome or KDE) they are unable to successfully log in -
and are presented with the nebulous .dmrc error as follows:
User's $HOME/.dmrc file is being ignored. This prevents the default
session and language from being saved. File should be owned by user and
have 644 permissions. User's $HOME directory must be owned by user and
not writeable by any other users.

NFS issue
...tc/fstab
"192.168.0.254:/home /mnt/home nfs rw,hard,intr 0 0" good :)
Then I started adding users, I added one user and did not create a
/home/user directory instead pointed the home folder to /mnt/home/user
But when I try to login as that user I got the dreaded:
"User's $HOME/.dmrc file is being ignored. This prevents the default
sessionand languages from being saved. File should be owned by user and have
644 Permissions. User's $HOME directory must be owned by user and not
writable by other users."
So I looked into the permissions and this is what I see serverside:...

I use cifs1.34a on top of a vanilla 2.6.11.9, and on both the client and

In the attached files you can see the output of "find" in the mentioned
directories.

Speeding up a bootstrap routine
I have written the R code below to perform White's Data Mining Reality Check
(DMRC) but as it stands at the moment it is painfully slow. It is written as
a function as I call it many times from a script file with different data
input, and the output is sunk() to a text file. Could anyone suggest
improvements to the code to increase its speed?

Possibly OT: FreeNX and Gnome Language
.../003967.html
I attempted to accomplish this with those instructions and end up
with a whole lot of fail. I assume I am misunderstanding something
very basic because the user still is presented with an English
desktop when they login through nx.
I also tried the following trick of editing their ~/.dmrc to
provide the language environment, but unless you login through gdm
(as I read from google searches) this file is skipped.
Has anyone encountered this and come up with a solution? Or is
there a way to refine my google search in some way to provide
better information for me? I appreciate any hel...

exec: 29: /usr/bin/wine: not found
Hi,
I?ve installed wine on Ubuntu 6.10 64bit using the following guide :
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=185557
but, when I type winecfg in Terminal I get the following error :
exec: 29: /usr/bin/wine: not found
Dunno if it may help, but here?s a terminal shot of when wine was
getting installed.
