weird Windows profile creation
It seems weird. On 75% of my machines, it creates accounts as: c:\documents and settings\username on 25% of the machines, it creates them as: c:\docments and settings\username.DOMAINNAME These are fresh machines, so it's unclear to me where this behavior stems from. We're not using roaming profiles. Does anyone have any idea as to why this happens? thanks Chris

file creation mode is not obeyed
Samba 3.0.26a OpenSuse 10.3 In samba.conf the default file creation mode is set to 775 (group write). This mode is not followed or established when a domain user creates a file. It is not group writable. -- Chris Christoph P. U. Kukulies

Question "Access Denied"
It seems that people all across the net have had issues with the particular error of "Access Denied" when an XP user attempts to join a domain - but no readily available answers are given. What might be causing this error? I'm using an Ubuntu 8.04 server with all the defaults for the Samba server installation. -- _________________________________ Joshua S. Martin

Problem with network drives
Hi, I have a Windows Xp station where a network drive is mapped. The username and password for this network drive are the same as those of my Windows session. I want to access to another share on this server with another name and login than those of the mapped network drive. When I try to access to this share it tries with the username and password from my Windows session. I can see it in the

I can join the XP machines to th domain without problem but when i shut the pc down it remains saving the configuration in the windows logo screen for almost 10 minutes and then it shuts down. Slow listing of mapped drives in Explorer
We recently moved our Linux file servers from Debian Woody to Debian Etch (v4.0r3). We use the current stable Debian Samba package which is version 3.0.24. Since moving to this Samba version from 2.2.8a-0.1 we see that Windows clients are very slow to list the 5 network drives mapped by our domain login script in Explorer or "My Computer". It can take 10 seconds or so before the drives

Desktops for non-roaming profiles
Hi list, In my current organization, we aren't going to be using roaming profiles (for various reasons, it's not desired). I'm moving us from no domain controller to Samba as a PDC (with an OpenLDAP backend), and I'm trying to make the process as invisible as possible to the end users. Each XP user's local desktop exists at: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>

name resolves to public address - should resolve to private...
On my network I have one Samba PDC (Version 3.0.28 running on FreeBSD 6.3-PRERELEASE), one mail server (FreeBSD + Dovecot + Postfix) and a dozen or so WinXP/Win2K machines. The WinXP/Win2K machines all have static IP addresses. The Windows clients are configured to look up the Samba PDC machine for both DNS and WINS. The Windows clients seem to be able to find other machines as well as the PDC:

more smbd CPU mystery
Well I have determined that everytime someone logs in/logs out of a windows box in our lab *ALL* of the files in "My Directory" are copied from/to the file server to the local client. Needless to say this is retarded and needs to stop. The local sys admin needs to perform some windows voodoo to redirect this directory. Still this brings the mystery as to why smbd would take up so much

Problem with samba and XP
I had Samba setup up on a debian box with three XP\2000 clients accessing the four samba shares but only allowing three users access to a couple of the folders. These 3 users had dummy accounts set up on the debian box (they never logged onto the debian box). The samba shares live on an external USB hard disk connected to the debian box (formatted as fat32). For non (samba) related reason I
