DShow Filters - "Play to" support in WMP
Hi! Apparently the current DShow filters (https://xiph.org/dshow/ , Version 0.85.17777) don't allow for flac files to be streamed over DLNA from Windows to DLNA devices (like a TV set with WLAN). I use Windows 8.1 64 bit and while Play-to works with mp3 and other "natively" supported files, it does not works with flac files. (I can play them locally in WMP, just not send them over DLNA), Is there any solution? How much of c...

Mediatomb under CentOS-6
Is anyone running mediatomb under CentOS-6? I've installed it from rpmforge.repo (I think it used to be in the epel repository under CentOS-5) but I don't know how to configure it. I'm trying to use it to see photos on my Samsung Smart TV (model D5520). The photos (or some of them) come up on the TV, but when I click on them I always get the error message "Not Supported File

Simple Samba server for "at home" - what do I need and what not?
...sync and sshfd adequate. We do have a handfull of standalone Windows 10 machines, a bunch of smartphones and a zoo of home entertainment appliances such as a TV, Sat receivers, IP radios/audio players. In addition to having Samba on this box, I do plan to publish parts of the audio/video achive via DLNA, so it would be a pain to configure the Samba server that DLNA becomes hard to build. I would like ot have Debian jessie as operating system, which comes with Samba 4.1.17. Since we are talking about at most 20 different accounts to access the Samba server, I'd like to avoid going AD. I am fi...

Why are Samba DCs not browsable?
...es and/or old computers, and a few for highly-connected workstations that depend on the server being up to function (remote disks) that get dedicated lines (port-to-port). But it's still only 1 server. So how does one maintain browsing in such an environment -- its the only way many UPNP, DLNA and SSDP units function?

Lockups with kernel-2.6.32-358.0.1.el6.i686
...800MHz and 1GB of RAM. It has a dual-port Intel 82546GB NIC in its single PCI slot. (It also has an on-board Realtek RTL-8110SC/8169SC NIC that is plugged in, but doesn't currently have an IP address configured.) This server provides a number of services -- DNS, DHCP, routing between VLANs, DLNA media server, CUPS, etc. Most importantly, it runs Asterisk and manages all of the phones in the house. There's absolutely nothing in the logs related to the lockup. The system simply becomes totally unresponsive, to the point that the console cursor stops blinking. A hard reset is required...

Intel SS4200-E?
Has anyone tried runing zfs on the Intel SS4200-E [1],[[2]? Doesn''t have a video port, but you could replace the IDE flash DOM with a pre-installed system. I''m interested in this as a four disk smallish (34x41x12) portable ZFS appliance. Seems that people have got it running with Linux/Openfiler [3], and the process a Celeron 420 is 64bit. [1]

Why are Samba DCs not browsable?
Hi, In a book I'm reading on Samba4, the author explains that network browsing doesn't work for Samba AD DCs "because there is no nmbd process". It's true enough that I can't browse my DC, however, there is an active nmbd process on my Samba server. So I wonder if the explanation of the author is (still) correct. I couldn't find any supporting or contradicting

VAAPI on GeForce GT 620M
...on the secondary GPU is pretty much untested. Well you've got a point there. It's just that the dang nvidia is pretty much sitting there on its hiney doing nothing (the mediaserver is running headless), while the CPU block is doing all the heavy lifting (I'm running torznab grabbers, DLNA streaming etc off an old laptop whose screen's busted). I tried nvenc/nvdec, but the 650M doesn't seem to support it according to my reading of the support page <https://developer.nvidia.com/video-encode-decode-gpu-support-matrix> Doesn't support CUDA either, it seems. so I switc...

Web photo gallery options
Hi all, I'm looking for a web photo gallery for my personal web server at home. Till now I've done the galleries manually from Adobe Photoshop Elements, but I feel that is a dead end, kinda', besides the fact that the galleries created are rather static. I'd like an easier way to do this, eg uploading images in folders directly to the gallery and it will take care of what needs to

[Freenas-announce] FreeNAS 8.2.0-RC1
...e hidden. Plugins are now available. Third party modules can be added to FreeNAS which will persist across upgrades and can be manipulated and configured from the GUI. Documentation on using and creating plugins is available at http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Plugins_Configuration . BitTorrent, DLNA/uPNP, and iTunes plugins are available as of this writing. The GUI now includes a webshell, which allows you to access a root shell from within a web browser. The "Create Volume" modal was renamed to "Volume Manager". Extending existing pools is more intuitive than it was pre...
