ZFS on a 11TB HW RAID-5 controller
...ed ZFS. I have tried to install OpenSolaris Developer 134 on a 11TB HW RAID-5 virtual disk, but after the installation I can only use one 2TB disk, and I cannot partition the rest. I realize that maximum partition size is 2TB, but I guess the rest must be usable. For hardware I am using HP ProLiant DL180G6, 12 1TB disks connected to P212 controller in RAID-5. Could someone direct me or suggest what I am doing wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Dusan -- This message posted from opensolaris.org

This server has SATA Harddrive - 4 Nos of 500GB each and the OS doesnot detect it. 00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation

e-mail serving
I am going to try an experiment with e-mail aggregation where I expect to receive over 1 million e-mails a day from public lists. Can anyone shed some light on hard disk space (to retain this e-mail for long periods) and system specs to be able to handle the load? I am looking to buy a low end box, but that can hold lots of RAM and accomodate a fair number of HD's to store the e-mail while

SSD drives for the OS - 1 or 2?
Preparing to build a small replacement server (initially built in 2005) and normally for the OS I would buy 2x500GB drives and deploy in a RAID 1 configuration. Now we have SSD drives available - does just a single SSD drive offer the same reliability or is there advantage in deploying two in a Raid 1 config? Also, what form factor / interface is best for the SSD OS boot device on a server

Syslinux 3.85 chain.c32 problem solved
Thanks to debugging information from Thomas Mieslinger, I have root-caused the failure of chain.c32 in Syslinux 3.85. I have put out Syslinux 3.86-pre1 and Syslinux 4.00-pre33 which fix the problem. I expect to release a Syslinux 3.86 relatively shortly (ideally in the next two weeks), with bug fixes only. I would like to figure out if there are other bug fixes we can get in in reasonable time,

Please advise on very fast search
Hello, I try to create some kind of mail backup system. What I need is system that will store mail for the whole domain, and allow me to restore messages from/to specified email at that domain. The scheme is pretty simple: on our main mail server the SMTP server itself has a rule to send a copy of every message to 'backup at backupserver.host', and the backupserver.host domain is
