djbdns under CentOS7: startup and socket issues
Hello all,
I am trying to get djbdns ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djbdns ) running
on CentOS 7. So far I have wirtten the djbdns.service and djbdns.socket
files. The sockets (TCP and UDP 53) for some reason would not start and I
don't know how to debug that; the service does start but only when I start
it manually by running

Exported resources & exec ?
...ental. So my problem might well be a design limitation of how
exported resources are working.
My issue: I''m trying to export a file resource that is created by an
exec block. The file is exported fine and collected fine but it is
always empty on the other host.
The puppet snippet:
class djbdns {
define master($ip) {
root="/var/lib/service/${name}"
...
# export public keys
@@file {
"/var/lib/puppet/modules/djbdns/masters.d/${ipaddress}-${name}.pub":
ensure => file,
alias => "master-key-${name}",
require => Exec[&quo...

DJBDNS: very weird dnscache issue
Hello all,
We have put a DNS server online running DJBDNS v1.06
(ndjbdns-1.06-1.el6.x86_64) on a 64-bit CentOS 6.6 server. We have done
some limited testing on the machine which it passed - i.e., dnscache was
talking to tinydns, the queries went through fine, etc.
As soon as we put it online subjecting it to live load the following
happened:
1) Within a...

djbdns rpm for centos [dnk]
Can anyone point me to a good one for use? It would be cool if it was
from a repo for updates, etc.
Thanks in advance!

How to get djbdns to start early enough to satisfy ntpd at boot?
Hi there,
I've been a happy djbdns+tinydns user for many, many years. I
want to keep using it, so answers of the form "bletch! Use ISC
BIND the way BSD intended" will be ignored :-)
Having said that, one annoying consequence of my transition
some time ago to using ntpd, rather than just setting the clock
once-off with n...

tinydns/djbdns opinion poll
Good morning:
We're about to start moving our public DNS to in-house managed
servers. My first thought was "Linux + BIND" and we're done. Someone
in another business unit's IT dept. has suggested tinydns be used.
>From what I could find, it looks like this software hasn't really had
any community drive behind it in a while. The latest RPMs on rpmforge
are for red hat

Array of files and other questions...
Hi
I''m quite new to the art of writing puppet manifest, but the more I see,
the more I like it :-)
I''m trying to write a djbdns dnscache module.
dnscache configuration is spread in several files, for instance the ip
addresses allowed to query the cache each have a file in dnscache/root/ip/
whose filename is the address.
I''m trying to automate the creations of those files with puppet, but it
seems to be impossible...

Still struggling with performance issues
...MP was definitely the source of previous
lockups) with 256Mb RAM. It is running along with a load avg
of less than 0.1 even at peak times. Max ip_conntrack is
around 1500-2000. Sounds fine, but, we have also tried 3
different squid proxies (2 NT, 1 linux), and 3 different DNS
servers (bind and djbdns), and are still getting sporadic long
delays at various times of the day, often when the proxy is
under light load.
Is there *any* chance that the firewall could be at fault here? It
almost seems like it''s taking 10+ seconds to setup the
connection, but once that happens, the browser...

CentOS 4.4 and dns cache
Hi,
I have this mail server running CentOS 4.4
I've installed in it a djbdns dns cache running at 127.0.0.1
Everything works just fine, except yum.
Is there a way to turn this around ?
Any help would be appreciated.

Bind Firewall Rules
OK, so does anybody have a good firewall rule solution for what we're
supposed to be doing with bind these days? Obviously port 53 is no
longer enough.

1 Server, Multiple Client Setup
Hello,
I have tried for days on end with no success on this, so I thought I would
post it here and see if someone can help me at all.
*Here's the scenario:*
I have 1 PC with a Static IP/Domain (a dyndns.org account -
myserver.homeip.net) connected to a router, which in turn is the gateway to
the internet. It also has a static local IP (192.168.1.2). I will call this
the "server"

How to keep several puppetd in sync at the same time ?
Hi,
I''m still writing my djbdns module, I came to the following design issue
with master and slave tinydns.
Normally there is no such master and slave distinction in djbdns: all
tinydns instance are equal. Usually one instance on one host is
considered the master on, which the RR are changed, and when you need to
propagate them,...

Featurerequest for nsd4
Hello Wouter,
We used tinydns for many years. After migration to nsd3 we miss only one feature present in tinydns only:
tinydns may switch addresses by decreasing the ttl for old data and serve new data
starting from a fixed timestamp.
http://cr.yp.to/djbdns/tinydns-data.html:
You may include a timestamp on each line. If ttl is nonzero (or omitted),
the timestamp is a starting time for the information in the line; the line will be ignored before that time.
If ttl is zero, the timestamp is an ending time (``time to die'') for the information in...

firewall and opening ports
...e can point me in the right
direction.
I have just installed CentOS 4.2. I selected to have a firewall in
the graphic installer, and I opened ports 22 and 80. Fine so far. SSH
and HTTP both work. But now that everything is set up I have
discovered I need to open port 53 in order to install djbdns.
My main question is: what did I install by choosing to have a
firewall in the CentOS installer? Is this iptables? Or is it
something else?
And then if anyone just wants to give me the complete answer: how do
I open port 53?
Thanks!

Asterisk eventually fails when connection dies
I have a single server running asterisk 1.6.0.8 with a few sip voip providers
and a tdm card for redundancy. It has a caching name server and the sip providers
are hard coded in the hosts file.
When the internet connection dies, it fails over to the dahdi channel as it
should, but slowly the sip phones loose registration and the incoming dahdi
channel can still answer the incoming call, but it
