Are these instructions meant to be executed on CentOS 1804?
Good afternoon from Singapore, I came across this Linux Journal article titled "DIY: Build a Custom Minimal Linux Distribution from Source", written by Petros Koutoupis. Link: <https://www.linuxjournal.com/content/diy-build-custom-minimal-linux-distribution-source> https://www.linuxjournal.com/content/diy-build-custom-minimal-linux-distribution-source Are the instructio...

NAS -- Centos 5 DIY or Openfiler 2.0
...need to set up a NAS. Got a box with a 200Gb drive ready to go. I have installed Openfiler 2.0 on it but..... I really can't add other services, like FreeRadius (keep the list simple for now). So maybe I should just stay with what I know and use Centos. Other experiences? Are there good DIY NAS instructions for Centos 5?

A small DIY test for 2.4.7 and 0.9.4
...7, compiled with gcc-2.96-85 on a RH7.1 distribution with the relevant changes, i.e. e2fsprogs-1.22-1, mount-2.11g-4 and util-linux-2.11f-3 taken from rawhide. I am using sometimes my /usr/local partition for ext3 testing: /dev/hdc2 3842408 738176 2909044 21% /usr/local For my DIY testing, I am timing this trivial script which copies, decompresses and deletes the compressed source 2.2.17 kernel of 17563583 bytes (17M). The source partition /dev/hdc4 885468 792616 47872 95% /incoming is on the same disk. #! /bin/bash time cp /incoming/linux-2.2.17.ta...

DIY Rtools?
Dear List, I'm currently working on an R package that works great when compiled with GCC 4.8 under linux but which doesn't seem to work so well when compiled by the win builder (http://win-builder.r-project.org/). After asking around a bit, the primary culprit could be the older version of GCC used in Rtools. Now, for academic purposes, I would like to have a zip version of this

DIY hardware player -> Vorbis??
Hello all, I ran across this link from slashdot and it looks like it has a lot of potential: http://www.pjrc.com/tech/mp3/ It is a built-it-yourself kit project for an mp3 player. Although there are still some things that need to be refined, this could be one path to getting a cheap Vorbis hardware player. As I said, it is currently set up for mp3 files, but the firmware is supposedly

Rails AJAX helpers or DIY
I''ve used script.aculo.us before (pre-Rails) to do JS effects like having a menu link that when clicked shows a sub menu, that kind of thing. Now I want to do something very similar but in Rails. Basically I have a list of summaries displayed in a view. I want to have a link that when pressed shows the detail. To do this I would normally have each summary in a DIV, the ID of each

SOHO Survey / Creative Asterisk Solutions
I hope the subject isn't too buzzword compliant :) I'm just curious: What have people done with Asterisk? I'm particularly interested in DIY projects and things that can be done on a small/home office (or even hobbiest's) budget. If you have clever hacks or creative functionality you've implemented, I'd love to hear what a few people have come up with. Thanks! -Brian -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachmen...

Performance issues/difference of two servers running same task (one is quicker)
...- wordpress, woocommerce, wishlistmember, Sensei etc - software are all in the same stages of updates. - even many of the linux conf files are the same (/etc/host, bind, etc) - the databases are copies/identical Life server is a Poweredge M710,48GB,2xXeon L5630,LSI Raid1 SSD Dev server is a DIY, GIGABYTE MX31-BS0, 32GB, 1xXeon E3-1245,MDADM RAID0 1TB Seagate Spinners Clearly the development server is hardware wise way below the specs of the Dell but software wise they are identical (they get upgraded at the same time). During normal operations (i.e. display websites, online training co...

NUT and relay on USB
...is that I have a device manageable only via USB port. How can I handle this configuration? My assumptions are: 1) split the USB cable from UPS to rasp and device, but I don't know if it works 2) connect the UPS to rasp directly, so connect the rasp (by GPIO) to device as a Serial port with a DIY cable. The problem with second solution is that I don't know if (and how) I can do it with NUT. Thanks a lot for all opinions.

Unable to POST after suspend
Hi, I just tried the live CD for CentOS 5.0 on a desktop computer and decided to see if suspend worked. It seems it did, but I'm unable to start the machine again. It's a DIY system with an Asus K8V-X motherboard[1], an AMD Clawhammer 3200+ and 1 GB of Kingston ECC RAM. The system has been perfectly stable despite being utterly abused on a daily basis for almost 3 years. I've tried: - unplug power cord - reset CMOS - remove BIOS battery - remove all RAM When reset...

cannot rsync when source directory lacks write permission
I seem to be running into a problem where I am trying to rsync from a source directory that lacks write permissions (i.e. r-xr-xr-x). Presumably this is because rsync creates the directory on the destination, then sets the permissions to match the source and then tries to sync the contents of the directory, which it cannot of course lacking write permission in the directory. Is there a way to

Well, when I was shopping for a MiniDisc player (not as a primary format), there were many with optical input, but only the professional rack mount MD from SONY has optical output. Thankfully, it also had coaxial digital, which is sometimes more convenient. I'm...

Passing hid_rep_index to libusb_get_config_descriptor is wrong?
...oth-lists.debian.net/pipermail/nut-upsuser/2023-October/013461.html Since then, I've been building and testing from source following the instructions a helpful reply in the above thread pointed out. The original problem is I've got one of these arduino HID power devices, as a project for a DIY UPS at home. This arduino is a composite USB device, CDC is on interface one, HID Power on Interface 2. According to the NUT source tree, an arduino HID subdriver came in a couple of years ago (e07bec1), so this should "just work" ;-) But it doesn't for me. I traced what I think the...

Protocol for an Arduino based UPS
Hi, I'm building a DIY UPS for a Raspberry Pi using a 12V SLA battery, charger, and an off the shelf 5V regulator. To monitor the battery level I'd like to use an Arduino or similar type device. Since the Arduino can have a serial over USB connection with the Pi I'd like to implement a protocol that can be used w...
