In my case I have no control over the remote box at boot time. I have had stock linux distrbution kernals fail to boot on my hardware, ie change NIC init order.
syslinux has been better at booting my systems than Gr.. or Li.. I'm just looking to solve the failed test boot problem.
I understand Bloat is bad, and that ttyUSB is much to big for the small group of usrs with serial...

COnfidence intervals for estimates of linear model
Hello,
I would like to calculate the 95% confidence intervals for the estimates
of a linear model and I just wanted to check that I am doing it correct.
Is it just:
Estimate + 1.95996*Std.Error to Estimate - 1.95996*Std.Error
or is there another approach that doesn't assume a normal distrbution?
Thanks. Apologies for my naiivity
Dan

hi there!
hi there!
how u doin?...hope fine.
look, i've a difficulty in simulation especially for the bayesian analysis
using R. Using the famous Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method,
Methropolis hasting algorithm i want to simuate different distrbution like:
1/ Weibull-exponential
2/Gamma-Gamma
3/Poisson-Gamma
4/Normal-Normal
5/Normal-Gamma
6/ Negative binomial - Jeffrey's prior
Especially, i need the Gamma-Gamma case. with all due respect, can u

Problem with Integrate
The background: I'm trying to fit a Poisson-lognormal distrbutuion to
some data. This is a way of modelling species abundances:
N ~ Pois(lam)
log(lam) ~ N(mu, sigma2)
The number of individuals are Poisson distributed with an abundance
drawn from a log-normal distrbution.
To fit this to data, I need to integrate out lam. In principle, I can
do it this way...

Question about acception rejection sampling - NOT R question
...= c(h(x) for all x
They clearly explain the steps as follows :
1) generate Z from h(x).
2) generate u from a Uniform(0,1)
3) if u is less than or equal to f(Z)/c(h(Z) then return Z as the
generated RV; otherwise reject it and try again.
I think that, since f(Z)/c(h(z) is U(0,1), then u has the distrbution as
f(Z)/c(h(Z).
But, I don't understand why the generated and accepted Z's have the same
density as f(x) ?
Does someone know where there is a proof of this or if it's reasonably
to explain, please feel free to explain it.
They authors definitely believe it's too trivial becau...

...for the
lognormal on its own, but the additional logistic factor has
taken it beyond my immediate analytical capabilities.
This has an obvious practical illustration: X may be a predictor
for an event which, given X, has the logistic probability of
occurring. The question relates therefore to the distrbution
of X in cases where the event occurred, and in cases where the
event did not occur. As such, I would expect that it has often
turned up in the epidemiological world, and the resulting
distribution may well have a name and well-known analytical
properties. It just happens that I'm not acquain...

Outlier detection in bimodal distribution
Hi,
I was looking for a package that would help with outlier detection for bimodal
distributions. I have tried 'outliers' and 'extremevalues' packages, but am not
sure if they are ok for bimodal distribution.
Any help would be highly appreciated!
thanks,

floppy disk emulation boot regression
I am in the process of trying to update a bootable Linux CD that I
initally built some time ago using RedHat 7.3 and syslinux 1.x (I
believe that x = 52, but this doesn't seem to be relevant). In order
to do this, I first built a floppy disk image and made it bootable by
running "syslinux -s" on the image; then I incorporated this image
into a CD using "mkisofs -b boot.img -c

Time of failure, Arrhenius and Weibull distribution
Hi,
I'm currently doing some analyses on time of failure of a product.
I found on the internet some article about the Arrhenius equation, and I can calculate the results with R.
Equation:
k=A*exp(-Ea/R*T)
I can fit a model with lm for this purpose, so far no problem.
But for the confidence interval, how can I use the Weibull distribution?
Or should I use the weibull distribution at all? Or

negative binomial family glm R and STATA
Dear Lister,
I am facing a strange problem fitting a GLM of the negative binomial
family. Actually, I tried to estimate theta (the scale parameter)
through glm.nb from MASS and could get convergence only relaxing the
convergence tolerance to 1e-3. With warning messages:
glm1<-glm.nb(nbcas~.,data=zonesdb4,control=glm.control(epsilon = 1e-3))
There were 25 warnings (use warnings() to see

make install not creating lib entries in /usr/lib under Ubunu 11.10
I am building xen-unstable (23860:a422e2a4451e) on Ubuntu 11.10. I
noticed that the "make install" does not create lib entries in
/usr/lib/. I see them only in /usr/lib64/. This is causing program
like xenpaging to not find the xenctrl library (error while loading
