Hide empty Samba shares?
When a partition mounted to a shared by Samba folder is dismounted, Samba keeps sharing that empty folder. It creates a security hazard, since files can still be saved to that empty folder, and overwritten next time (lost) when the original partition is auto mounted again to the same folder. Its also confusing for most users to browse empty shares - no normal person would understand why

For what reason the "official" Wine does not support USB ?
Hello A lot of windows application need access to an USB port. For Wine a library (or a patch) exists to manage that but it is not include in the "official" release. If we want to work with this USB port, we have to compile a personal version of Wine, but this is not really obvious for every body. Why this feature is not include in the release ? Do you plan an official release with

shutdown -r / shutdown -h / reboot all hang and don't cleanly dismount
Hello -STABLE@, So I've seen this situation seemingly randomly on a number of both physical 9.1 boxes as well as VMs for I would say 6-9 months at least. I finally have a physical box here that reproduces it consistently that I can reboot easily (ie; not a production/client server). No matter what I do: reboot shutdown -p shutdown -r This specific server will stop at "All buffers

SETFEATURES SET TRANSFER MODE semaphore timeout on FreeBSD 6.0 RELEASE
Hi I have a newly installed FreeBSD 6.0 release machine on which I am getting the following error on the console: "ad4: req=0xc23bc258 SETFEATURES SET TRANSFER MODE semaphore timeout !! DANGER Will Robinson !!" This is generally associated with heightened disk activity, but it happens inevitably after a while (minutes or hours) if the machine is running. The atacontrol list shows:

Dom0 hanging on reboot "Please stand by while rebooting system..."
Installed Hypervisor via Xen4CentOS<http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Xen/Xen4QuickStart>, noticed that every few reboots it will hang right before/while dismounting with "Please stand by while rebooting the system". Dmesg attached, as well as my best effort to capture the Xend.log during this crash. Thanks! Jim _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing

reversing the effects of mkfs.btrfs?
I was playing around with btrfs, and did a mkfs.btrfs on one of my partition. Mistakes, it was my data partition (ext3 based). I have not yet mounted the device, but the mkfs.btrfs continued to completion. Is it possible to salvage my ext3 filesystem? Anyway to reverse the effect of mkfs.btrfs? Thank you for your help/answer. -- Regards, Peter Teoh

OSX 10.6 Clients on a 3.4.11 Server
Hello, I'm running Samba 3.4.11 on CentOS 5.2.. I Have some users at my company that have recently upgraded their macs to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and are running in to some SMB issues. When they mount a share they can move, delete, copy folders just fine. If they open and close a file in one of those folders though, they cannot rename, delete, or move the folder because samba has it locked and

Huge delays on login/first access from WinXP clients on samba 3.0.4 PDC
Hi *, after upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.4, I'm suffering from ~10 min. delays on login/first access of a share from a WinXPpro client to a samba 3.0.4 PDC (SuSE 9.0). UPS on Freenas
Dear Sir or Ma'am, I have set-up a very functional NAS in my home using Freenas 0.7.2.5543. I had problems when losing power to the NAS. When I'd power it back on, my Raid 5 array and other disks would say that it was not properly dismounted, until I erased the disks, reformatted and remounted. The problem would then go away. I have since put an UPS between my NAS and the power to

6.0-REL problems with ISA ed0, FFS corruption and ancient hardware
[ Asked on -questions on Friday; re-asking now on -stable without cross-post] I recently upgraded a 4.11-REL machine to 6.0-REL and have run into some snags. While the installation from CD went fine, after configuring and enabling my ed0 NIC, bad things start to happen. FWIW, this machine is an ancient (hardware circa 1991, BIOS circa 1994) dual-Pentium 133 MHz machine, with EISA/PCI and

text-mode system and /media
I'm running a headless server, so no GUI, just ssh logins. I don't seem to have the mechanism that automounts USB drives to a subdirectory of /media, and from googling around I think that's a feature of a GUI-based system. What implements it? Right now I manually create a mountpoint in /mnt and then manually mount by label from /dev/disk/by-label after plugging the drive in. It
