PHP version not enough for developers
...> . . . Still, disregarding the part some of us dislike personally > (plus often reboots necessary to install some vital updates > - which all Linuxes are prone to beginning somewhere around > 2.6 kernel) . . . I am glad to discover that I am not losing my mind. I too have been rather dismayed at the perceived increase in frequency with which I must reboot my servers. I wondered whether this was simply a misconception on my part or an actual change in the environment. Apparently it is the later. -- *** e-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** Do NOT transmit sen...

Workspace Question.
I recently installed R version 2.14.1. After a session (not my first) in 2.14.1, I saved the 'workspace image'. I then opened earlier R versions, 2.14.0 & 2.12.0, and the only objects listed were from the 2.14.1 session. All the work under those previous versions were gone, to my dismay. This did not happen when I was working in 2.14.0, as 2.12.0 objects were not affected when saving the workspace image in 2.14.0. Are the 2.14.0 & 2.12.0 objects retrievable or permanently deleted? Thanks for any input, Mike [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Polycom UC 4.x Unreachable
...oyed and working great for years. Now I've finally been charged with the long-overdue task of figuring out why newer Polycom devices with 4.x firmware register fine but do not respond to SIP OPTIONS request and therefore always become UNREACHABLE if the sip qualify setting is set to yes. To my dismay, searches for solutions from others who have encountered this problem have given zero results. Thanks!

Moving to ORCv2 - Compiling debuggable code?
...n the process of porting our ORC code to ORC v2 and LLJIT. The new API allows me to remove much of our own code, which can only be a good thing. I sometimes get crashes, however, when executing my JIT compiled function, so I thought I would use gdb to try to figure out what is going wrong. And I am dismayed to see that there seems to be no way to provide an event listener to register compiled functions with gdb. LLJIT creates an object linking layer with no listeners, and no way to add listeners afterwards that I can see. Am I missing something? Is there another way to debug JIT compiled code? Geo...

Tag flac as flac 1.2.1_git
I know Erik is busy with maintenance and wants to get a release out soon. In the meantime, is it appropriate to tag HEAD as 1.2.1_git and include this in the CLI tools (flac, metaflac, etc)? This would make it easier to allow programs in development to test against git flac and older flac versions. For example, sample rates above 48kHz (for ReplayGain) is available in git flac but not 1.2.1.

Mysteriously vanishing LD_LIBRARY_PATH
...opyright (C) 2009 The R Foundation for Statistical Computing ISBN 3-900051-07-0 [...] > Sys.getenv("LD_LIBRARY_PATH") LD_LIBRARY_PATH "/home/hrapgc/local/R-2.9.1/lib:/usr/local/lib:/usr/lib/gcj-4.1.2" I'm particularly dismayed by the fact that there are now only three parts to LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and slightly mystified by the appearance of /usr/lib/gcj-4.1.2 in place of /usr/lib/gcj-4.1.1. Maybe that's a red herring since the former is a link to the latter. I would appreciate help getting the rest of LD_LIBRARY_PATH...

Multiple CPU HowTo in Linux?
Hello all, I upgraded my R workstation, and to my dismay, only one core appears to be used during intensive computation of a bioconductor function. What I have now is two dual-core Xeon 5160 CPUs and 10 GB RAM. When I fully load it, top reports about 25% user, 75% idle and 0.98 short-term load. The archives gave nothing helpful besides mention of snow. I...

R code for "Statistical Models in S" ?
I just acquired a copy of "Statistical Models in S", I guess most commonly known as the "white book", and realized to my dismay that most of the code is not directly executable in R, and I was wondering if there was a source discussing the things that are different and what the new ways of calling things are. For instance, the first obstacle was the solder.balance data set. I found a "solder" data set in...

UNDI-3.1 support in pxelinux?
HPA et al.: Are there any plans for pxelinux to support UNDI-3.1, as defined in UEFI-2.1, appendix E? I ask because I was dismayed to see EFI systems successfully download pxelinux, only to have pxelinux exit. This was a major downer after implementing an debugging an entire EFI "UNDI" driver. Scanning pxelinux.asm, I conclude that pxelinux supports only UNDI-2.1 at the moment. Thanks, --Glenn

RCov?
Sorry to be a newb about this, but I''m trying to integrate rcov into my tests. I tried to follow the example located here: http://rspec.rubyforge.org/tools/rcov.html But to my dismay, I just don''t understand what to do. I tried to run that task in the rspec plugins directory, but it threw an error about pre_commit. Regardless though, I want to be able to rcov all of "my" code, so where would I put this, in the regular Rakefile in the app directory? That doesn...

How to separate outgoing extens from the contexts from sip.conf?
I have a sip.conf with stanzas for sip phones that have 'context=sip-incoming for some Grandstream phones and another stanza for a Sipura SPA3000 with context=pstn-incoming. Reviewing the code today, I was dismayed to see that all my outgoing extens were mixed into those two. I have been told this is very insecure. How can I separate the outgoing extens? When I create a context [outgoing] in extensions.conf with various extens, they never get activated. How to I get them to dial etc? Larry -- Larry...

Won't connect at start with Wndows 98 and storage of profiles
...erated by Samba). I get an error message stating that the domain login server can't be found. If I then cancel the login, go to the start menu and log off, then login there is no problem. Any clues as to why my PC won't authenticate at power up but seems happy to later? I was also quite dismayed at the size of the "Outlook.ost" file created in the user directory on my Linux server - about 57Mbytes for no discernable content! Can I do anything about this? I'm no Windows expert (my other computers are Macs) so all this seems a bit mystifying. Iain Stevenson

To my absolute dismay I found out that the latest llvm docs are in rst format. Kickstart install surprise
I have to say that I was more that a bit surprised, if not to say dismayed when I booted a system with CentOS 5 installed to test a kickstart CD in interactive mode, took it to the custom partitioning screen, then rebooted without saving anything only to come up with a grub prompt, and the disk's partition table wiped. The ks.cfg file did say to wipe the disk when...

[LLVMdev] [LLVM] What has happened to LLVM bitcode archive support?
...asily implement linking a bitcode archive with a module efficiently (i.e. only call Linker::LinkModules() on the relevant bitcode modules inside the bitcode archive). Before I started I thought I'd better check that this API was still going to be available in the upcoming 3.4 release and to my dismay ``llvm/Bitcode/Archive.h`` was moved by you in r184083 and finally removed by you in r186197. So... * Is LLVM completely moving away from the idea have bitcode archive runtime libraries? The LLVM Make build system seems to support building these but LLVM doesn't seem to have an API for linkin...

The Talking Moose
...http://www.halls.md/moose/index.htm (There's also a Mac version at http://www.zathras.de/angelweb/moose.htm.) It's a tiny, simple desktop Windows applet that seems to confine itself entirely to a nice and neat single directory (that is, there's no messy installation), but, much to my dismay, I cannot seem to get it to run in Wine, nor can I diagnose the problem. Can anyone else get it to work, or, if not, offer up some helpful suggestions? Thanks!
