rsync "hang"
...4 installed. We have updated (wed 17-dec) to the latest Solaris 8 recommended patch set. When performing an rsync of two local UFS partitions rsync "hung", never completed, didn't exit. What I forced an exit via kill signal core dumped. Config of disks is that 1) Mirror by Solistice Disksuite rsync to non-mirrored UFS partition. 2) This non-mirrored UFS partition is later copied to a second non-mirrored partition. It was during this second stage that rsync hung. There was nothing particularly odd about the...

LVM and ZFS
...isk that I was using for testing inside a simple LVM metadevice all errors vanished and performance increased many many times. And no "hickups". But I wonder... Is there anything in a setup like this that might be dangerous - something that might come back and bite me in the future? LVM(disksuite) is really mature technology and something I''ve been using without problems on many servers for many years so I think it can be trusted but anyway...? (I use the partition of that SSD-in-a-LVM-metadevice as a SLOG device for the ZFS zpools on those servers and performance is now really *...

contrib/solaris/buildpkg.sh - use within JumpStart as well?
Hello, I don't know how off the wall this question will be, but first let me say that I've found your buildpkg.sh script very useful in creating an OpenSSH package for use on my Solaris systems. Currently I'm trying to set up a fully automated JumpStart system at my workplace, and I'm realizing that the 'postinstall' script (and possibly some of the other install scripts)

Some questions I had while testing ZFS.
I''m looking at bringing up a new Solaris 10 based file server running off an older UltraSPARC-IIi 360MHz with 512mb ram. I''ve brought up the 11/06 release from scratch no patches installed at this time. I have 4 externally attached 36gb scsi devices off the hosts systems scsi bus. After setting up a few different zpool scenarios with mirrors, raidz, raidz2 to familiarize

Best Practices recommendation on x4200
Greetings all- I have a new X4200 that I''m getting ready to deploy. It has four 146 GB SAS drives. I''d like to setup the box for maximum redundancy on the data stored on these drives. Unfortunately, it looks like ZFS boot/root aren''t really options at this time. The LSI Logic controller in this box only supports either a RAID0 array with all four disks, or a RAID 1

Oracle and ZFS
Hi All ; One of our customer is suffered from FS being corrupted after an unattanded shutdonw due to power problem. They want to switch to ZFS. >From what I read on, ZFS will most probably not be corrupted from the same event. But I am not sure how will Oracle be affected from a sudden power outage when placed over ZFS ? Any comments ? PS: I am aware of UPS''s and

Proposal for how per dataset keys are initially setup

ZFS and powerpath
How much fun can you have with a simple thing like powerpath? Here''s the story: I have a (remote) system with access to a couple of EMC LUNs. Originally, I set it up with mpxio and created a simple zpool containing the two LUNs. It''s now been reconfigured to use powerpath instead of mpxio. My problem is that I can''t import the pool. I get: pool: ###### id:
