filelist caching optimization proposal
...ee is cached in the OS disk cache.
(but still a lot of cpu resources in all the syscalls i think)
My idea is to create a patch for something like a --cache option that will use
a cached version of the filelist: This way instead of creating the filelist
every time (100.000's of system calls, diskaccesses), we can now load the
filelist in one instance. This is even more usefull for rsync-servers, that
are usually read-only. (like the gentoo mirrors or kernel.org which always
has a +100 load it seems ;)
I see the following problem with this:
The cache will become 'out of sync' if someth...

Problem with Samba 1.9.18p10 on Solaris 2.5.1
...t goes
through fine but if I do three of them simultaneously then I get this
problem. However the samba connection itself is not broken and I am
able to see the same "missing file" at a later point of time when the
system is not loaded with builds.
I replaced samba with PC NFS software (DiskAccess from Intergraph) and
this problem didn't occur in the same build conditions. But I would
like to continue with samba instead of changing over to NFS.
Any suggestions on how to fix this are very welcome.
Thanks in advance,

Samba 3.0.11 hammering NIS
I installed Samba recently on a ClearCase server (Solaris 8) to remove
the need for DiskAccess on the Windows clients. I'm having two problems
with it, actually. The important one that I'm asking the list about is
that Samba is hammering my NIS master with requests for DoMaiN+UseR (and
every conceivable combination of cases--note + instead of \, per winbind
separator statement...
